Default Factory Boxes and Presentation Case Question

I have only one of my many revolvers that was bought by me factory new. It is of more recent manufacture and has the plastic case. I have an "As New" Thunder Ranch Special that came with the presentation case and all accessories including a factory plastic case.

The question I have is for older cardboard box and two piece box era revolvers: If you bought a revolver new packaged with the wood presentation case, would there be a factory box along with it?

I would presume that if you bought them together with the presentation box as an optional add on, you would obviously get a box. But my question, I guess is whether S&W would ship revolvers in cases as a package and intentionally NOT provide a regular factory box.

Models that came with the presentation case included a plain blue "shipping box".

My M27-2 was inside the blue box, which was inside a larger brown cardboard shipping box with the presentation case.

The instance of a S&W not being in a "factory box" I can cite is my Performance Center 945-1. It was shipped in a Performance Center gun rug, inside of a cardboard shipping box.

There would be no separate box starting in 1960 and continuing until sometime in 1979. At this time, the revolver was shipped in a blue cardboard box along with the presentation case that was shrink wrapped. These items were shipped in a larger corrugated box.

Here is an 80's 629 that came from the factory (w/Presentation case). Label has fallen off now but it was sticked to the outer shipping brown box.

Thanks Guys!

So my 70's 25-2 w/Presentation case is correct and complete if I have the papers and tools.

And my 80's 29-3 w/Presentation case should have had a cardboard box with it.

Cool
