Nice!
Barrel length does not contribute to intrinsic accuracy. Barrel length influences velocity and sight radius. A longer sight radius can improve practical accuracy.

I own three K-38s: a Model 14, a model 14-2, and a 14-3. I think I will take them all to the range soon and compare accuracy results too.

Just came into the -3 yesterday when my friend and fellow bullseye shooter tried to give it to me since he is moving to Vermont (he is 91). Figured he would need some money so paid him $550 for it anyway (I think he paid $350 for it a few years ago).

When I got the gun home was shocked to realize that it is SA only. Looking it up in the book was also surprised to learn that a factory-lettered SA is worth a 25% premium. Even though I'll be hanging on to this one I already put the form and check in the mail. Inquiring minds want to know.

Personally, I am rather fond of the K-38 in all its iterations. Here's a picture of a little under half of them that live in my safe. I was recently able to finish acquiring a complete collection of one of each major variation of K-38s from 1947 to 1982, all in Excellent or better condition. One of these days I will get them all out of the safe for a group photo.

I own two of the factory SAO examples (both 14-3). Their serial numbers are close together and both shipped in 1973. Here are some pictures:

Keep in mind, S&W sold a conversion kit to change a DA to SAO. It takes a letter from the SWHF to determine if one came from the factory in the SAO configuration. Both of mine have been verified.

I had a K22 with the long barrel and liked it. Would love to have a long K38. Only one I currently own is also 14-3 with a 6" barrel. Some holster wear but perfect function and certainly worth the $100 I paid for it on Gunbroker.

Forgot I had this picture; otherwise I would have included it in my previous post. This one is an early narrow rib K-38. It left the factory in April, 1949.

This 14-3 from 1974 was the first vintage Smith that I owned. This thing has cost me a ton of money ever since! 14-3's

Was there ever a 14-4 offered in SAO? I have one but it is a 1977 vintage and the box is labeled SQ?
