Default My grail gun

Well, I have a want list, but I have been looking a long time for a model 50. I bought a new one in the late 70s but had to sell it when I fell on hard times in the mid 80s..
I just bought a NOS on GB for $1135. Had 1 guy bid a couple of times, but now it will be mine.
It's a good day.

I used to think the Model 15 was just about the perfect 38 Special carry gun, but then I discovered the Models 50 and 60-4... I now think of the J frame 38 with adjustable sights as one of the most indispensable members of my firearms battery. Congratulations on fulfilling your own quest!

So...

You're the son-of-a-gun who won it? I watched it from day 1.

Congratulations. I was gone to a town gathering or it might
have cost you more! Glad it didn't -- that's a great price. Glad to
see it show up here, too. Neat, neat serial number, too.

Yes, it sure is. S&W decided to give the CSTs their own model
number in the mid-60s, but the Model 50 didn't come on the
scene till the early through the mid-70s. As I recall they're all in
the roving J serial number series.

Wake up.
I have a new 520 also...
Yes, it is a chief target they made 568 of them in 1973 according to "the History of Smith & Wesson" by Roy Jinks

Compared to some of the crazy prices I'm seeing for lesser models these days I believe you got a bargain, even if it is a "WOW" price.

I saw how the bids rolled out when I got home last night after the auction had closed. I figured you had gone "all in" on your initial bid.

I found this grail gun 9 years ago:

This is one of 213 made in 1975, in the J serials. A Mod 36-1 Target, .400” target trigger, Sq Butt with a front sight base and pinned 3" HB. Special feature code on box label: G347. No cyl line and it truly looks un-fired.
