Model 19-4 2 1/2 inch
Have just been offered a 19-4 with 2 1/2 inch bbl. Just wondering about value on the gun. It is pristine(looks unfired) but no box Didn't get to look it over all that well when I first saw it when it wasn't for sale. The owner wants a gun I have with a bit of cash. Equals out to about 700 bucks Is a really nice 2 1/2 inch !9 worth that? I am sorely tempted

Anything under $900.00 YOU WIN! If you went to $1,000 you still win just later.

You had me at "looks unfired". Won't find one again anytime soon.
Curious: what are you trading, if I may ask?

Thanks for the replies.. I already called him and told him it's a go. I have a Kimber micro 9 with laser grips he wants. Now I have to find another nice small carry gun. My wife has a nice little Kahr...but she is still a little Teed Off cause I sold her 3 screw Super BlackHawk. . So Teed Off she hid her 45 Colt/45 ACP combo. JIC I think

Just some advice from a old guy.....Never sell the wife's guns without her consent! It'll help you become an old guy, too.

Well I am an old guy...My wife hadn't shot the darn gun in many moons...The 45 Colt is one she keeps under the pillow. I have been chastised repeatedly. I now KNOW I was a bad boy

No not my wife's gun!! uh uh! The micro 9 Kimber is one I carry mainly in the summer cause I can put it in a pocket...It is a bit heavy and I do have to find a summer carry gun now...but I can carry my Commander size 45 Kimber in the winter..Heavy coats and such make it easier.

I sold another of her guns a couple years ago. It was a M-19she kept in her truck under the seat. I bought the truck...she took it...I bought the gun...she took it too. It WAS in a holster but it had a hard life under that seat. So sold it and bought her another prettier 19-3. She said it didn't "feel" as good as the one I sold!? As far as a carry gun I do have a Sig 365...but it is a fantastic plastic small 9mm...not my cuppa tea though.

Yeah...but she has dispatched a couple yotes with the 45 Colt. Darn woman is numb from the neck up shooting a handgun...So is our granddaughter. Both better than me I think. Daughter is a great shotgun shooter...handguns not so much. Saying all that...I supply the guns and ammo...they have the fun and I don't mind. They all know how to shoot which is a plus for certain. I have another 19 I have to do some work on too

Never had much use for a snub. Then, I watched Hickok45 smack the 80 yard gong over and over with one. Now I pay more attention. Good catch.

I have never been a snubbie fan either. Or the real long bbls. If I hadn't bought a M-27 no dash with an 8 3/8 in bbl...My longest S&W would have been a 5 inch one...Now I have another S&W w/6 1/2 inch.. An old 32-20 target. Life just keeps getting more complicated

Is it the short barrel that keeps the price up?
I've got an unfired 19.4 but its a 6 inch barrel, is that a detrement?
I have the box, papers, tools, just asking.

I don't really know why the short bbls bring higher prices. To me a 6 inch bbl is a detriment but to other shooters it is a plus. I am a 3-4-5 inch person The fellow I am getting the 19 from bought a 3 inch 686 a few years ago at a gun show. If I had my druthers I'd rather have the 686 and I am not a fan of stainless

Hope you bought it. IMHO what it’s worth now is not the question, it is a great gun to own and never going to lose value. My 19-4 I picked up over 30 years ago

These days, $700 for an excellent condition Model 19 with the 2 1/2 inch barrel is a bargain. The 2 1/2 inch barrel is desirable as a CCW revolver and these days, that's what seems to sell fastest.

The key to selling the wifes guns is to buy her an upgrade. I sold three of my wifes guns. Bought six more !!!! for her of course.

Well I picked it up today..had one negative though. Not the original stocks. He had put a set of Pachmayrs on the darn thing since I saw it a couple weeks ago and sold the originals. Don't know why cause it hasn't hardly been shot. I still bought it though. I don't have a set of round butt stocks in any of my parts boxes. So I put on a set of aftermarkets I had in one of the drawers. The fellow really did make up for it though. Did an even trade and I got some reloading items....including an electric case trimmer and a whole host of other things...including some hard to get items. I will post pics tomorrow evening...and I am going to try to find a set of round butt stocks

No not a bummer. It kinda PO'd me. But it was his gun to do with as he pleased so I kind of look at it with a fatalistic view. Otherwise the piece is really nice with almost perfect blue. A friend had a set of magna RB stockes he offered me 2 weeks ago for 20 bucks...but I had no RB guns so I declined them...even at 20 bucks...Karma, huh?. I almost didn't buy the gun till I realised that 7/8 of a pie is better than no pie. And the gun I traded even up I had 425 in. And the greed bug bit me with all of the reloading stuff he offered me. You seldom are offered a 300 dollar plus case trimmer for 75 bucks. I am sure that I will eventually find a nice set of round butts on this site sooner or later. Now it is off to Billings to visit the dentist...Another sucks day!

Thanks for the offer but nah...I think I will keep it. Another thing I got from the fellow in the reloading stuff I bought was a nice Forster Co-Ax press and a Redding- SAECO Lube/sizer. I eve got a bar of Cerro safe for doing chamber casts. Even got 3 caliber changes for the Gracey...So I am not going to complain too much about the non original stocks. I have been busy but will take pics today. I'd also like to get some input on who have made the combats I put on the gun...sure beats goodyears. IMO! Now off to cut some firewood

Just FIY for spouse gun sales. I once bought my wife a very nice Walther THP in the bag in the box. She went out and shot 1 mag thru it with me when she got it. Fast forward about 4 years. I was going to a show and needed some trading fodder so, since she hadn't shot it since the first time I decided to take it to the show. I
stupidly sold it for a nice profit. About 2 weeks later as I was dozing in my recliner, this voice asks "what did you do with my little gun?" Helplessly, I responded "I guess it is in one of the safes". 20 minutes later the voice says "No its not. You took it and sold it didn't you"? Caught like a rat in a trap. Long story short it
cost me $100 more than I got for it to replace it. Lesson: NEVER EVER SELL WIFE'S GUN ON THE SLY" (I won't even touch the sucker to move it in the safe.

Forgot to post pics of the 19-4.
Here are a few. Anyone have an idea on the maker of the combats I put on it? Sorry for the delay. Considering what I had in the little Kimber(about 450) I think I still did ok without the original stocks. I will eventually find an original set of magna RBs

I don’t buy magnums with short barrels. Too much recoil. My ruger Police Service six in 357/2 3/4” barrel barks with magnum loads even with herret grips made to my hand it’s a handful. I never complain about recoil.
With the misses I was going to sell all my reloading stuff she said no, you might go back to it, she was right I did.

Have to do another pic or two.
Due to the kindness of another member of this board I was sent an original set of stocks/grips for the M-19 I got not too long ago. It how looks as it should with round but grips Thanks for the great gift.

I haven't noticed much, if any, difference between my 4" M19-3 and my 2-1/2 inch M66-1. I was sort of surprised by that, I expected the snub barrel be a real "jumper" under magnum loads. One thing it most definitely is, is a "flasher" when using a slow burning powder over a fast burning one.

That's a great looking M19, can't believe you got it and all that reloading stuff for a Kimber. Something to whet your appetite at the gun show, a NIB M66-1 I found last weekend at a gun show:

I was recently offered a 66 no dash NIB from the person I sold it to originally. Still unfired 4 years after I sold it to him. I had it for many years as I got it wholesale. Don't know why I sold it...I had put it on the table at a gun show as eye candy and didn't put a high enough price on it I guess. The fellow offered it to me for my selling price so I will probably buy it back...but it is a 4 inch gun with stainless sights too.'' But doubt I will fire it so may decide to just move it on to a collector...or maybe collect it myself...ummm

Since that is a model "first edition", I'd get it back and hang onto it.

I paid $750 for a -3 in high condition about 5 years ago and thought it was a fair deal. They aren't going down in price, I know that much.

Yes, the last 2.5" Model 19 I sold went for around $750 bucks. Ten percent went to the S&W Collectors' Association. Good deal all around.

Yes, yes, I should note in this edit that after the 2018 fire I sold almost all of my K frame snubbies. Just to be clear.

I sold this -3 about a week ago for $950 FTF. It had the box and original BOS.
