Default Ropers - Keith Brown

Hey Folks,

I just bought a beautiful set of Ropers by Keith Brown from a nice gentleman on this forum.

On the back is the engraved "KB", but also a large number 3 in the same font.

Does anyone know what the 3 stands for?

Many thanks, Marc

That’s easy ! They are the third set I made. Within a few sets of those I started filling the carved initials with white paint. That went away in maybe another dozen sets.

Thank you so much for answering that Keith. You sure came out of the blocks running fast as these look like an old master made them.

I wonder where numbers 1 and 2 are? :-)

I notice this pair fits a mid to larger sized hand well, with a palm swell. Did you ever vary circumference of your grips?

Many thanks again, and best wishes, Marc

There are few recreations or reproductions that meet or exceed the original. Keith Brown makes a Roper styled grip that I predict in the future will be as sought after by collectors as “original” Ropers... they are that good. Mr Brown is a true artist as well as an outstanding craftsman. As for my “bold” prediction, from the demand and prices the Brown grips enjoy, it won’t be very far in the future!

Default Roper/Brown

I have a friend that collects Roper grips, any size, shape, and/or model and have had many a chance to compare the true Ropers to the KB grips! KB craftsmanship by far exceeds the Ropers. The only comparison is in the style!

This is a set of KB grips(note the stripe)! They are 1-of-2 sets(from the same piece of wood) on a 1-of-4 gun(41 Mag)! I am proud to call Keith a friend and fellow SWCA member!

The third set - very cool and congrats! Makes me wonder just how many sets he has turned out since then...? KB stocks exhibit the work of a master craftsman and are some of my favorite things to collect.

Default Photos of set No. 3

Now that I know this is set No. 3 by Keith, and that folks really collect these, I thought I would improve upon those embarrassing quicky photos I posted earlier. At least this will help folks in the future with how Keith inlet and marked his early grips/stocks. God Bless, Marc

A set of Keith’s grips are a treasure to own and your grips are a great example especially being an early set.

In post 6 Joe has a set he purchased about 5 years ago at the Columbus Ohio symposium at the SWHF auction. Was sitting with Keith before the auction and fell in love with the wood. Keith said he had enough for 2 more sets of grips so I placed an order. The Roper’s are on a 5” 27-2 and the K frame set are still waiting for a donor gun. All 3 sets are in Ohio and all 3 were at the NE Ohio Bunch. Larry

Thank you Larry! I stand corrected and proud to have 1 of 3 sets from the same piece of wood!
