29-2 4in Nickel update
Well I finally got home after approximately 2 weeks away on business and got the fondle my 29-2. This gun is in immaculate condition. The guy said it was in the cardboard Box when he got it from a family member who died along with the original Box. There is one little hole in the felt , other than that. Everything in like perfect condition

Look at the front of the cylinder and count the burn rings. If you find 3, being a ring around every other chamber, then it has only been test fired at the factory. If you find all chambers have burn rings, then it has been shot since it left the factory.
Either way, that's a fine Model 29-2 with presentation case.

What if it doesn't have ANY burn rings?
OP's 4" M29-2 is gorgeous, been very well cared for. Make sure you wipe off the fingerprints after handling it, mine had sat in its presentation case for who knows how long, and it took me over 3 hours of cleaning with Flitz to get the imbedded fingerprints off the nickel. Keep it wrapped in a silicone cloth, don't store it in the presentation case.

Or if one has been shot several times then cleaned very very good then shot every other chamber to look like it has only been test fired at the factory.....seen this trick too ................................M*

A little shooting and then cleaning, followed by firing every other chamber can imitate a non-fired revolver. Nickle plating often makes looking for signs of wear difficult. On blued revolvers, you can usually get an indicator of use by looking for case head marks on the face of the recoil shield, nickel plating does not allow for that microscopic transfer of brass into the steel or create wear marks like they do on blued steel. A significant turn line on the cylinder can also be a clue, but that can also be the result of a cylinder stop with a rough edge.
Of course, anyone who is dedicated to deception can do a good job of making a used firearm look like new. So far, I have parted company with only two firearms and neither one could have been mistaken for "like new" condition. They were well cleaned, but then showed signs of use.

Based on what I see in that pic, it has been fired. All the chambers show burn rings and there appears to be an accumulation of powder residue in the nooks and crannys on the face of the recoil shield. So what you have is not NIB, but is in excellent condition and comes with the presentation case. It is a very nice piece, but I would not hesitate to shoot it with factory 240 grain loads, but not the hot stuff from Buffalo Bore, Underwood, or any other boutique company, and of course any 44 Special load or reduced power 44 Magnum load. I would not abuse it, but I do think that is a very nice shooter.

I remember during the dirty Harry craze people bought a .44 magnum and decided the recoil was way to much and boxed it back up and sold it. found a lot of like new guns like yours with only 6 rounds fired though it, and a box of ammo with 6 rounds missing. Also they would take the wood grips off and put pachmayrs on, found a lot of nice wood grips in pachmayr boxes........................................M*
