Default My lucky brother-in-law!

Mike (BIL) has been wanting, basically, a home defense handgun or other firearm and finally a couple weeks ago we got a chance to get out to the range so he could try out some of my handguns and different calibers, pistols and revolvers, and he decided on a .38 Special revolver (after getting slide bite and another cut finger trying to load a magazine, which, if anyone says neither has happened to them is lucky or lying!) He did well with my 15-3 S&W. Very well, actually, for the first time with a gun in his hand and at 25 yards, pretty dang good. A local shop had a Model 10-5 for $400. Very good condition, matching wood, etc., etc. I picked it up for him today. The guy at the shop put the Serial # in his phone app and said it was made in 1962, Mike's birth year. I walked out of the shop with gun and box of 50 FMJs for $462. I am going to try to post a couple pics; if they don't post could someone maybe give me a manufacture year just to verify what the guy told me? I appreciate any input. I know S&W made a zillion model 10s, but with the condition and original wood and birth year, I think I did okay...especially with "these trying times"
n'at! Ser. #D279328. Also, I cleaned it up a little more after I took the pictures. We're gonna shoot it Monday. Thanks yinz guys!!!

I'm sorry, it didn't work. This is a brand new MAC desk top and I don't know what my comp-illiterate brain is doing wrong. Maybe I'll get my old one to post the pics.

In 1962, they were only a little more than half way through the C prefix serial numbers. D started in c. 1968. As series guy wrote, the one you bought is from 1969 or 1970.

Still, a Model 10-5 is a good choice for personal defense. I suspect you did fine at $400.

I appreciate the clarification; I thought it was too nice to be a '62. I go up to the Wexford State Game Lands, usually during the week when it's not real busy. I haven't been going very often because of the BULLIT shortage. If you see a Red 2020 Malibu, usually with a Weimaraner barking in the back seat, that would be me! I like the 25 yard lanes a little better. We're going up Monday probably since he's off. (I'm happily retired!!!) Jeff

Yeah, especially for the condition and with all the newer gun people, which is good. Like my BIL, who's never had a gun in his hands all his life. I recently bought a 15-3 for $500 and my 10-8, I bought 22 years ago for $225. These are nice firearms; I kinda wish I'd bought one of those surplus model 10-6, 10-8s last year, but I'm happy with the wheel guns I have. (I bought 2 GP100s just this year, new, both in .327 Fed Mag. A 6" in Stainless and a 5" in "blue".)
