I have an older model 36 with serial number 182147 and was wanting to know the year of manufacture.

Assuming there is no "J" prefix to the serial number, it would be between 1957 and 1962. If you post a pic, or a more detailed description, someone may be able to narrow that down.

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.
The ones in my database suggest the company shipped it in the first quarter of 1960.
S&W tracked ship dates, not manufacturing dates, and they didn't ship in serial number order so it's a guess not a guarantee when comparing others with known ship dates.
Is it blue or nickel, round or square butt, 2" or 3" barrel?
Curious minds want to know.
We like photos, too.

It is a blue round butt 2” with no J prefix. I will try to post some pics tomorrow. It was inherited from my dad and I am sure he was the first owner.

Fantastic. Looking forward to seeing it.
It will have a flat latch thumbpiece and a diamond around the screw escutcheon on the grips. The inside of the right grip should have the same serial number as the butt, and so should the back (inside) of the extractor star (push the extractor out as if you're ejecting shells, use a bright light and I need a magnifying glass, too).

Help
Also looking for date of manufacture on mine. Here are some pics. Serial 628771. I have the original grips, as well, though not pictured. Also, slightly bent extractor rod - any tips on where to get a good replacement, or tips on repair? Many thanks!
