Yesterday I posted over in the collectibles thread about finding a NIB pair of Model 90 handcuffs at one of the local gun stores near me, dating to the late 60s or early 70s. This morning while looking around another local shop, I found the perfect companion for them for my collection: A 1969 Model 28-2 in excellent condition with matching box. The finish has a couple small rub spots in it on the barrel, and there's a turn line, however the action is tight and perfect, no endshake or cylinder play at all when locked up. The trigger is smooth, and surprisingly light compared to other 27s and 28s I've had. I thought maybe the main spring has been changed, however, I'm not sure this gal has been shot all that much. The strain screw is tight and looks unaltered as well.

The only detractor to this particular gun was the grips: She didn't have her originals, the box is marked "S" so I take that to stand for standard, and probably indicating a set of magna grips. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Instead, she had a poorly fitting pair of Pachmayr presentation grips, which I have replaced temporarily with a set of S&W N-Frame target grips I had in my spare parts bin that someone carved finger grooves into. They look terrible, but are surprisingly comfortable, and even still are a better fit and feel than the old Pachmayrs.

So, as I said, it was a pretty good weekend for collecting I think.

The S on the box label actually stands for "square." But you are correct, it means the gun shipped with Magna stocks, which were standard on both the 4" and 6" Model 28. If it shipped with targets, that box would have T or possibly TS marked in it.
