Stunning!

I have only one, purchased from a forum member, that has honest wear as a policeman's firearm. I couldn't pass it up because of the barrel length, 3.5".

It is shown with a Mod. 66-4 "at the range."

You're killing me man. That pistol is awesome I hope to get one in the future. That will bring my meager revolver collection up a notch or 10.

Nice. I have a M-66-1.

I'm down to only 2 model 27s, this 5" and a 6.5" no dash.

I sold my 3.5" pre-27. I never fired it either. LOL

This one was also carried by an LEO as you can see by the wear on the edge of the cylinder. It just wasn't carried a lot. Usually just on special occasions.

Not trying to be smart but isn’t that price a tad high for 1975? That was year before I got FFL and closest thing as far as price I remember was a 29-2 I bought cash at LGS for $216 and change before tax.

That gem really shines! Didn't I see where you use Flitz on your blued guns before waxing them? If so, do you do the whole gun, or just certain areas (ones that may look dull)? You need to do a YouTube video on your process!

The Presentation cases for the 5" guns are, in and of themselves, quite scarce and valuable.

Perfect flagship S&W wheelgun. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much.

This is pretty typical for a cleaning. I start with the cylinder bores and then the barrel. I clean all the surfaces with a little Hoppe's 9. Chemicals differ for nickel, SS and blue.

I clean around the forcing cone and other areas with wire brushes. Again different brushes for different finishes.

They I rinse them off with a can of brake clean and then blow them off with a can of that electronics duster.

I do a light polish with a small amount of Flitz on the end of my finger. I don't rub vigorously or hard but I do the entire gun except for the moving parts. And I always use microfiber cloths to wipe off the polish. Cheap ones like they sell at Walmart.

Then I wax them with Renaissance Wax just like I did when I polished them. I like to remove the Ren Wax and lightly buff them with Flitz Microfiber clothes. They are really nice clothes.

I have a small bottle of Hoppe's oil and I put a tiny drop on the pieces that hold the cylinder in and a tiny drop on the ejector rod.

I clean the grips with a household toothbrush and put on a light coat of Ren Wax and use cotton swabs to clean out the screw holes in the grips.

It took some time to figure out how to make them look nice. I learned TONS here in this forum form a lot of good people.

I have them to thank and I'm very fortunate to have a few really nice S&Ws that have cleaned up really nice.

A few years ago S&W offered a great discount to military types and I decided to take advantage of it. At the time I was routinely in touch with John Taffin and this is the gun he recommended, except for the elk stocks that I added not too, too long ago:

Model 27 Classic:

Earlier photo before I replaced the stocks, which I still have but didn't like because they were not a perfect fit to the gun:

I figured it's not quite as lovely as the OP's gun but, still, more eye candy for everyone.....

Kenny-I only have one 27-2 as well. Mine is a 6”, no box or tools. The last 3 in the Serial Number are my badge number from the old days. Love your 5 inch.

I have the very same package!
I've not been on here for a while and came across your post.

Twins!!!

I'm not sure that mine has been fired outside of the factory. The original sales recipt shows that it was sold in LA California at a Montgomery Ward sometime in 1977. Buyers name... Ron McDonald. I kid you not.

Nice buy what a treasure.

My two m27-2 / 6” / one blue, one nickel were $795 each in mint condition. My dealer had three m28 6” blue for $695 each. A decade plus ago. I thought they were decent prices back them.

I'm very sorry that you have to live with that. My condolences.
I don't know how you are able to sleep at night!

Sometimes it is very difficult, I am glad that I have a 4" M28-2 to get me through the rough patches

That is just plain purty! I envy you, that's not nice to say but I do. A 27-2
has eluded me. A long time ago when i found one new in the box, I didn't realize how prized that they were and goofed.

Here's why this one is a keeper. At one time it was my brother's favorite gun.

I'm quoting one of his posts from back on 10/15/2016.

"I went through my state police academy class in 1981 with a 6 inch Model 66, but my sentimental favorite gun at the time was a 5 inch, blue Model 27-2 I'd bought a few years before. I had done a rudimentary action smoothing to it and added a wide, smooth "combat" trigger and a pair of gorgeous smooth Presentation Goncala Alves grips, but thought it was too pretty to get banged up using it as a holster gun. Just because it was so pretty, I wore it instead of my 66 at the class graduation ceremony. My mother-in-law noticed it and nudged my wife and asked her in a whisper, "Why is his gun so much bigger than everybody elses?" The wife laughed out loud but Myrna just looked puzzled.

President Reagan came to Salt Lake City to speak once in his first term and as he was speaking in a county facility, my office drew the local security role. I wore the M-27 to the event and ended up backstage with some of the Secret Service guys. One of them noticed it and told me, "Nice Magnum, deputy."

This is the 66 that he mentioned, actually a 66-1 that he carried for the first 10 years as a Deputy Sheriff and this is the holster that he carried it in.

Yep, and the 66-1 is a keeper too.
