Where do I find info
I just bought a Mod 57 Ser# N1497XX. I tried a ser# search on S&W ser# search but I get an error message. I what to know the Date of Manufacture and appx value. It is unfired, 4" barrel and Nickle plated, an was extensively engraved by Jeffrey Flannery in 1980 and have a letter from 8/22/1980 from the engraver and in near perfect condition. Any ideas where to go to get more info and value. Thanks for any help.

Your Model 57 was most likely shipped in 1974. If you want to know the actual shipping date and location, you will need to obtain a letter of authenticity from the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation (cost is $100).
Jeff Flannery is a Master Engraver (I think) and is well known, so I am sure your Model 57 would sell for $3,000 to $5,000. However, posting a few photos would certainly help with an evaluation.

My advice is buy the books.
Specifically SCSW ~ Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

Thanks for the reply's...I'm at the right place. I've added attachments. Not great pics though. The engraving has to be top notch. All arcs are smooth and complete with no interference with script or edges...a very nice job.
