But I've seen SB, RB, mentioned when referring to Model 36's. What does it mean, and is there a post/thread here with any info about it? Does it apply to other models as well?

Please don't feel stupid.

None of us was born with that knowledge.

And, yes, it applies to all models that came in round and square butt. Some models, though, unlike the Chiefs Special Model 36s, were differentiated by model number to identify round or square butt. The I-frame Model 30 is a .32 with a round butt, and its sibling Model 31 is a .32 with a square butt.

When S&W began making the .32s on the J-frame in about 1961 those two became the Models 30-1 and 31-1.

Hope this helps.

You're not stupid, none of us knew that until we asked. I recently had to be told that SPP is Small Pistol Primer. Well, I didn't know.

From time to time different people have posted a list of common abbreviations. If you're interested, one such thread is linked below. (You have to scroll down it a little.)

Basic information

Thanks for that. I'm fairly experienced, so I felt I should have put that together, but I'll be the last to say I know everything. Always willing to learn.

Oddly enough, that glossary of abbreviations doesn't contain RB or SB.

Stupidity has nothing to do with it. Even the most knowledgeable on this forum had a learning curve.

The reverse is true - we can cure ignorance. Stupidity is forever.

The amount of things each and every one of us is ignorant about is titanic but put us all together and we're a virtual world encyclopedia so step right up to the campfire.

Reminds me of the woman at Costco who asked me what the difference between "D" and "P" was with windshield wipers. When I said driver and passenger she shrunk down and said "don't I feel stupid?" Why? If you're not knowledgeable about a topic, you're not stupid. You're just not knowledgeable. Now that you know your on top of the world. Good on you!
