Default Model 29-2

Hi
What are my chances of getting the approximate year of manufacture of this revolver? The serial number starts with N413xxx.
I bought it a while ago from the estate of a collector.

Sir,

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lists an approximate date of 1977-78 for N-frame revolvers beginning with a serial # of N400000. Remember that this information alone can't provide a definitive answer to your question.

Regards,
Andy

Don't have my books handy but if memory serves correctly the 6.5 inch stopped in 1979 so then or before. I have a nickel 6.5 SN N454155 which I show as 1977. Yours must be very close to the end of the 6.5s.

I get 1979-1980.

Edit: That's by Ser.# range. Jeff is right about the 6.5 going out in 1979 according to the book. That would put it at '79. Of course we all know anything could and did happen.

My M29-2 NCHP commemorative's SN is N662xxx, and my letter from SWHF says it was shipped in July 1979. Mine has a 6" barrel and was built after the 6.5" was discontinued. From what I have read, the last of the 6.5" barrels were used for part of the commemorative series my gun is part of, as a portion of them have 6.5" barrels but the majority have 6" barrels. I'd agree with 22hipower that yours must be from earlier in 1979.
