If not someone did a very nice job replacing the latches and hinges.

If so, what type of inserts would be in it?

I’m not an expert on these but I have not seen the keyed latches on any of these but thats just what I have seen.

I have not seen one like that. I suppose it could have been made for a commemorative revolver.

Given the fragility of those tiny hinges and latches my guess is an owner replaced them.

Your case is a transition case from the type 5(1979-1985) to the new case in 1985! It used the type 5 liner, hinges that opened to 90degs only, and a key type latch. I have recovered the liners of the case pictured.

About 1985 they totally redesigned the cases and made new type liners of foam rubber. There were 2 sizes only, up to a 6" barrel and a 10 5/8" barrel. They used the same hinges of the transition cases but changed the latches again.
