Default Searching for my Dad's gun

My Dad owned a .38 Chiefs Special blued finish Model 36 2" barrel square butt which I believe was purchased originally in 1962 when he joined the NYPD and sold around 1981 to Edelman's gun shop in Melville, NY when he retired.
The serial number is 222176 and I am taking a shot in the dark (pun intended) hoping someone here may know where this gun is these days.
Please contact me through the forum if you do.
Thanks.

I... think I found it:

Se vende Revolver S&W 38 especial, mod. 36, DF

Note the title of the thread which appears to have the S/N

Edit, I should note that this is is the link, just noticed that as a URL it was masked: --https://www.mexicoarmado.com/armas-cortas-venta/222176-se-vende-revolver-38-especial-mod-36-df.html--

Default Thanks for the reply

Thanks so much for the reply. However, as best as I can tell the number in the link is a posting# and not a serial number. Every post on that site has a similarly formatted number in the link.
It was a great try.
Thanks again!

Default Exactly!

Yes, that was my thought exactly! The odds must be astronomical.

It’s like the Hercules movie the search for the blue rose. The poor guy searched high and low, in the end he told her think this red rose is blue and the wilted roses turned blue, a happy ever ending. As pretty as she was I’d paint the dam rose blue. Then get to the kissy, kissy, huggy huggy part, lol

Good luck finding it. I’d buy the same model and be happy. I understand but life’s too short.

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.

I list a few with 222xxx serial numbers, but not your Dad's.

I add my best wishes in your search.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck but searching for a specific gun almost 40 years after it was turned loose into the used market is just about impossible. Too bad your dad didn't think it important to save for you.

Buy one just like it while you can. Set it up with the same grips and holster he used. Got to the range and shoot it. You will appreciate it more than most.

Yes indeed, I did buy one just like his, and I have his actual holster! But I'd still like to track down the actual gun. If not, I will enjoy the J-frame I have.
Thanks.

Ugh. I'm in a similar boat looking for my Dad's gun. I guess it's going to be a tough as I thought.

Good luck.

Edleman's is a lost cause as I believe they closed up shop close to 30 years ago. And I think they would have turned in all their records to the BATF when they closed. Frank
