Default This S prefix 28-2

Had some time before making a couple phone calls so I thought I would post this shot of my 28-2. It resides in a small drawer by the front door, loaded with 180 grain Black Talons. More than once I've had to carry it outside for those bumps in the night.

My favorite S&W, along with the M15. I have been known to hoard a few

With one of my local blackbears being 400# probably 500# by now I know what the bump in the night is. The predators are making a comeback here.
Make sure you carry enough gun.

I just polished my 27-2 nickel today.

My 4" 28-2 is my most carried gun when I'm in the woods hunting, scouting, hiking, fishing. Everyone should have one.

Thread highjack: unless you have reason to believe that the bump is an arsonist or someone else who can make your home into a trap, the best answer is usually to make the offender come to you.

And I'll bet who ever or what ever it was does not come around again! Sheeese. Old and cranky can be bad for their health.

I only have one 28-2, a 1978 "S" 6" and it rests on my nightstand.

My first 28-2 was a 6+1/2", well used with a target hammer and trigger, along with some oddball brand grips I really liked. It was my house gun, and my mother would carry it around with her on a lanyard hanging off her neck while I was at work. She had moved in with me while she was selling her house, which took almost a year. One night, she had been packing some stuff up that we didn't need to use until we moved back East, and she heard the neighbor's dog go crazy about something. She suddenly realized my dogs weren't with her, and called them. She heard them bark back, but they sounded like they were outside. She opened the sliding back door, and called them again. She could barely hear them, and started worrying (That was her specialty) and called me at work, so I left early and came home. After I had left work, she called back and told my boss, "Someone is pounding on a door, but it's not the front door!". He told her to call the police, and she was about to when I pulled in. After I came inside, she told me to call the dogs, and when I did, they sounded like they were outside. So I went and checked, and they were not in the yard. I looked into the garage and they weren't there. I called them again, and nothing. Not a peep, so I got into my truck and started driving around the neighborhood, yelling for them at Midnight. As I got close to my house again, the front porch light is flashing and I pulled into the driveway and mom comes out with the dogs. Where were they? In the spare bedroom she had put the packed stuff in. They had followed her in there and just laid down and she left them there. They got tired of being called and just stopped barking, but the Lab Joe was banging the door when she called him. Sometimes, but not when I called him. I missed getting that 28-2 back about 2006 when I forgot to check on my bid and lost it by a buck. It looked exactly the same as when I sold it in 1982.
