Don’t care for the finish but I understand why it was done from the pitting on the frame. It’s yours now, take it out, shoot it and enjoy it.

I had an airweight made about 1952 or so where Jim Bob had taken a grinder wheel to the hammer. Got a replacement from either Sarco or Numrich - been a spell. With a new hammer, that will be a dandy little revolver.

If it were mine, and I’d certainly like one in that condition as a project gun, I’d replace the hammer and then ream it out to a 32 magnum. Either of these changes are do it yourself with a little mechanical ability on your part. That would give you a more powerful option for carry and still be able to fire the 32 long when you wanted to.

^^^ This ^^^
While collectors may sneer at the refinished surface, it is actually likely to be wear resistant and practical. The bobbed hammer is fine if you are carrying the gun concealed in your pocket, otherwise I prefer the option of shooting it single action. Likewise the 32 S&W Long is a nice little caliber, but to live up to its potential, the extra 1/8th inch or so of powder capacity lets this little gun really come into its own.

I like it, has a utilitarian look, I don’t think I would put more money into it, shoot it and shoot it some more.

A 30-1 is a J frame. A J frame is what 90% of 32 H&R Magnum Smiths were built as from the factory. It is perfectly safe to ream to 32 magnum and shoot away. I have a 31-1 with a spare cylinder reamed to 32 magnum. I have fired 32 magnum thru it a bunch.
The 327 magnum is questionable in the safety area but it doesn't matter because the cylinder of a 30-1 is not long enough to ream to 327 magnum.

That is what I thought. But I will leave it alone for now. Just needs a trigger job as it is 5000lb J frame trigger pull. haha. now spring kits hmmm

The 32 H&R Mag @ 21,000 PSI, is not truly a magnum, so shoot it as much as you want in a J frame .32, Models 30-1, 31-1, etc.
The .327 Federal Mag on the other hand @45,000 PSI, is the Real McCoy. Only 2 models were chambered for it on the newer slightly longer J Magnum frame; 632-1 and 632-2, and both have ported barrels. They are both made in all stainless steel only. But folks, these are not fun to shoot nor especially shoot much.
Although, kind of a moot point, off the shelf ammo is mostly loaded with bullets that will fit the older J frame/cyl. Even if they're .001" to .003" over the length of the J frame cyl, they will function fine because the barrel/cyl gap will compensate for the slight over length. Any extra weight bullets used by reloaders though, are too long.
