The Georgia State Patrol did indeed issue the Model 28. It should have "GSP" stamped on the left lower frame just below the cylinder, like them boys in Flordia did it.
When i was a kid the troopers carried the Model 66, and when I was a teen they carried the Model 686.
When I was in trooper school we were issued the Glock 22 and Glock 27. The Patrol now carries the Glock 45 and Glock 43 for duty/back-up.
I would like to see a picture of that 28 if you end up getting it.

Thanks all. I do not have the gun, yet. If I do buy it, I will post pics. The SN is N81225. Thanks for the constructive comments.
Old Cop, if it letters to Patton, you'll be the first one to know. ))))))
I did check the book and no mention of Georgia State Patrol using this model although it is noted via other sources.
And I'm intimately familiar with the GSP. It seemed like they were always waiting for me when I cleared the Florida line on I-75. Occasionally, we would have chases that actually ended up in GA on 75. They were always waiting. Great guys.

The SN I provided may be incorrect. It was read to me over the phone. Not sure it sounds right based on the info in the book. I will see it tomorrow.

Guys, I saw this revolver today. It is a wreck. Five screw but missing one of them. Most of finish missing all the way around the cylinder. No pitting but something got on it. Yellow front sight insert. Probably one of the worst looking Smith's I have ever seen except one or two that had been in saltwater. Marked "G.S.P.". SN S147294. It was in a beat-up presentation case with very used cleaning tools. Target stocks on it. I'm not sure I'd pay $200 for it and they wanted a LOT more. So, that's the end of that story. Thanks for your indulgence.

If it's not trashed mechanically, it would make a nice gun to have electroless nickeled, or some other "indestructible" finish put on it. Gotta go for cheap though. That's my problem, I can't find a decent one mechanically that looks bad enough to refinish without feeling that I'm wrecking something.

I’d pay two hundred and make a decent shooter. Round butt and fresh makeup. They are great for shooting magnum loads. Curious what price is it? At this point the GSP makes for good cool factor.

I think you are right to trust your instincts on that one and stay away.
A missing screw on the side plate?? So some inept klutz has been working on it? Or possibly parts have been cannibalized to fix up another, "more worthy" gun, like an M27?
If the seller wants any more than a parts gun price, forget about it.

I saw Mr. Jinks response on shipping date. Usually when he hints around a little, a letter would contain information that would confirm something fun. Might be a great project gun for the right price for someone into LE guns.

Thank you. Yes a GSP in her much younger years (I believe that she was maybe 4) - she is now 13.
She is gunshy but does everything well - points, stalks, flushes, retrieves - you just can't shoot over her. Terrific for the bow hunters among us. BTW, she is pointing a frog in our back yard.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

Very interested in finding a GSPmarked 28. Brother is retired GSP and the 28 is the only one missing from his 30 year career...

I think you made a goodcall passing on that one. You would have far more money into a resurrection than it would ever be worth. Since the gun has no connection to you or your family there is no real reason to get it.

Agree, if there was any hope, I would have attempted to negotiate but it had more abuse than simply being carried as a duty weapon.

I bought a group of them off Shot Gun News one time. I don't remember which big outfit I bought them from but I bought enough to get the quantity discount. Probably 10. I made some of them big bore customs from part of them and sold some at a modest profit.................
