Circa 1979, It did not come with those grips - but did come with target grips, value IMO is about $600 but others will surely say higher... Like most discontinued guns, they didn't come popular until you couldn’t get them anymore.

For sure it did not come with those grips . Would of been s&W target grips . You don't buy them for $600 in my area . More like $900- $1100 . Regards Paul

Whatever you do, don't shoot it - you're doomed if you do!
The gun you have came with Goncalo Alves target grips with the 'football' (small) speedloader cut. I have a set if you want to make it original.

Yes, the "football" relief.
This picture shows a Model 24-3 of approximately the same age as your Model 57. These are the Goncalo Alves target stocks with the extractor relief spoken of above. This is what your original stocks looked like.
And BTW, that is NOT a "speedloader" cut. It was designed to prevent the extractor star from making contact with the stock shoulder.
The speedloader cut, introduced in the early 1980s on the N frames, looks like this:
This gun is a Model 29-3 .44 Magnum.

The grips on it in your photo are K frame grips. Very nice find. It should be very accurate.

Wish I could have found mine in that price range. My "S" prefix M57 set me back $1500, without the GA stocks or box. I don't care, though, I'd been looking for quite a while to find a nice one. I put the Altamont stocks on it.

Very nice OP. I have in the back of my mind to find one with a long tube.
The 2 below are about 1980 no dash and factory fired only. I believe the 6" will be coming up for sale soon

I would put a set of S&W targets on it as suggested here.
Culina makes some really nice aftermarket grips if you want t dress it up.
There are some Ahrends N square grips right now on the accessories forum posted by Retired W4.
Also, over the last year, I have come across 2 sets of the Eagle Heritage cokes. One in Walnut and one in rosewood. I like these for fit and feel

Here in South Florida those 8 3/8" 41 Magnums are hard to sell
Over the years I have purchased a total of four that I currently still own. These two in blue and the one in stainless with Scope and shoulder holster plus a stainless that had been bubbaed up quite bad all at VERY good prices.
The most recent was about 3 or 4 summers ago. It was on consignment in a local store that had 10 counters full of Glocks and the walls covered with MSRs. There was a single cabinet of used guns.
The asking price was $700 I told the manager what I was willing to pay for it OTD. He called the owner who declined
Next month it was still there and I made the same offer which was again declined.
The following month after making the same offer, I took it home at my offer price
I did not really need it, so it would have to be a great deal for me to take it. I planed on converting it to a 2 3/8" snubby with a round butt, but I have never gotten around to it
Usually a esoteric revolver like an 8 3/8" Model 57 will bring more money on an auction site than in a local face to face sale, after all you have a larger audience
It is always hard to determine value with a single picture and not being able to work the firearm mechanically.
The firearm pictured is wearing not only the wrong style grips, but grips from another frame size. The cylinder has a turn line, it looks like there is holster wear at the muzzle and the front sight has been replaced
If it were me making the purchase, I would be looking to spend $600+ depending on how good the mechanical condition is in
Here in South Florida, there is no way that would bring $1100

.41 Magnums can be addicting! Here is a picture of my early S-serial Model 57 and slightly later S-serial Model 58.

Putting a value on it in covid times may be a bit tougher. Normally a long tube 57 with incorrect stocks, handling and holster wear, no box, etc. would be like Mark pointed out: tough to sell except to a very narrow market. Everyone likes the shorter barrel models, but there is a market amongst hunters mainly for the increase in MV/ME that the 2+ extra inches will get you. Putting it up on an auction site will expose it to the greatest potential audience and draw the highest dollar, but with the caveat that your potential profit will be hedged by auction fees. Other possibilities would be sites like armslist or Washington gun trader, if you have that up in your area like we have Florida gun trader down here. Yet another option would be here on the forum in the classifieds section.

Does the gun have a white outline rear sight blade and did you get the Presentation case with it ?

Even with the wrong grips and front sight mod that would bring $900 - 1100 out here.
