grips
I have a model 13-1, should the original grips have the diamond in them at the screw hole? The ones that are on it don't, but appear original, don't have it with me now, forget if the assy number is penciled in or not. Thanks

No, the original stocks do not have the uncheckered diamond around the stock screw. That went away in about 1967 and the first model 13-1 was made in 1974.

Lou, if your grips are original to gun the serial number will be stamped inside of right panel. (Or part of the number)

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.
You have a coveted model! There is no such thing as a Model 13 without the dash.
S&W stamped the serial number (not a part number or assembly number) inside the right grip up until about 1982.

Thanks, two bit, and VM, I wasn't aware there wasn't just a model 13, so they started with 13-1. That's interesting, in handguns I mostly have Colt's,, 1911's all .45 and two Star PD's , and High Standards,, unfortunately, a few years back I had to sell my Slant Grip Victor,,, boy do I wish I had it back, but 3k was hard to turn down given the circumstances. I've had this model 13 since 2015, the day I got it at gunshow, I brought it home, fired 6 rounds and that's it. In very good condition considering the guy I got it from had bought it at the previous show from a pawn shop that had bought police trade ins, very slight holster wear on both sides of the muzzle, light drag mark on cyl, other than that mint condition, it might not have been a police trade in, but that's what they told him, 4 inch. Only Smith I have at the time, and only .357, have Anaconda .44 with 8 inch, that I have had a lot of years, got it used like new in box, was still getting FFL dealer magazines (used to have FFL) and had heard rumors colt was going to stop producing revolvers, got it in the nick of time, 3 weeks later guy I had traded with on it wanted to know if I would sell it back, the news had broke by then... Thanks again guys!!!! will check serial number on grips out in the morning.
