Default PD / SD / SP Marked S&W Revolvers...

I've always had an interest in the many law enforcement agency marked Smith & Wesson firearms from the last half of the 20th century. So, I'm always watching for police department, sheriff's office / department, state police / patrol, corrections departments, and other similarly marked handguns. If I can figure out how to upload an image, I'll post a few of mine, and would certainly enjoy seeing others. Additionally, I'd like to create a place for members to research the ownership of various PD / SD / SO / SP markings.

Here's a wider view of the OHP / S&W 681-1 & KSP / S&W 686-1.

Nice Kentucky and Ohio guns. I have a 1954 Kansas Highway Patrol Heavy Duty and a 1979 vintage New York State Police 28-2. I’ve posted before but here are a couple photos. Enjoy.

I enjoy agency marked handguns and have several. I have some that letter as shipping to a police agency but the guns bear no markings. Often initials are used and we have to guess. But sometimes it's just spelled out plain as day.

I have a 66-1 and a 15-3 with four initials stamped in them, one ending with P D and the other with S D. I'll have to get new pictures because this new phone didn't receive all of my old pics.

Then I have two semi-auto S&Ws from the KSP, a 1076 and an unissued 4566.

I keep my eyes open for others, and I really like that KSP stamped 66! Been looking for one of them, being I'm a born & raised Kentuckian. Nice example too!

Here is a Texas Department of Public Safety marked 19. The 19's typically went to the Texas Rangers, while the model 28's went to the Highway Patrol.

I have more, but will wait to roll those out in another post.

Actually, the KSP is a 1987 S&W 686-1 (see below). I was unaware they applied the KSP logo to the S&W Model 66, except on commemorative pieces, done after leaving Smith & Wesson.

The other KSP revolver I have is this 1986 S&W Model 60.

I'll post the KSP / S&W 1076 & 4566TSW and the KSP / Walther PPK/S .380 Auto later.

Hey Folks,
Anyone have an idea of where this sheriff's department marked A.S.D. - 07 / S&W Model 36 may have served? Based on what I can see, this revolver was made between 1968 and 1981. According to the current owner, he bought it several years ago from a LGS in Southern Illinois and the shop owner told him it was a trade-in from a retired detective. The current owner never pursued the original department name beyond he thought the gun shop owner said it was "Augustus" or something like that. I've run the "Augustus" lead down to a dead end, and there is no Augusta County in Illinois. I'd say "he's older" but hell, so am I. So, I'll post it here in the event someone may recognize the marking. Thanks!

Heavy Duty shipped August 1940 to a store in Fort Smith AR. Gun is one of ten ordered by the City of Fort Smith, AR, all were ordered as 4” Blue w/Magna stocks, humpback hammer and marked on the backstrap City of Fort Smith and numbered one thru ten. Markings were removed when gun was reblued many moons ago. Magnas are also long gone, so elk stocks from Bigmountainman.

There are two counties in Illinois starting with A. Adams and Alexander. Start asking about how they marked their guns.

I used to own one like that. Maybe from same shipment. Mine also had the HBH but someone nickel plated it. After awhile I couldn't stand it and sold it. Got it at a show in Little Rock.
