Default Regrets with WTT-or not?

Have you listed a WTT(revolver) and regretted the trade? Or were you happy with deal? Would selling it outright WTS be better? I am curious about your experience.

WTS is way better. The person that has what you want may not value your gun as much as someone else

I think it would be difficult to find to find someone who has what I want and wants what I have. For me it's easier to find a buyer for my stuff and then find a seller for what I want. Money talks. Larry

Only once. Drove 80 miles to trade 2 revolvers for 2. Since it was so far, I didn’t want to waste the trip. Regretted it immediately. Never again. Joe

Probably better to sell and then go buy what you want but occasionally a trade works out well for both parties. A fellow member here offered a 16-4 4 inch and was looking for a 27-2 3.5. We were both very happy with the trade; a couple years after the fact I still am. Good luck.

I don’t do trades. Period, for any reason. No exceptions.
The reason is simple. Some people are very good at trading and come out very well when they do them.
I ain’t one of them.

I've heard of buyer's remorse, and I've heard of seller's remorse.

I guess I'm not understanding why trader's remorse is different.

I've never traded any guns and I can't imagine I ever will. Besides the fact that I am generally unlucky, the math of it doesn't work. There is not a single one of my high(er) value collectibles that I would want to give up... and trading my low(er) value guns would never get me more than just another low value gun, assuming a fair and honest trade. So what's the point?

I read about folks buying guns as trading fodder. I don't buy anything for the purpose of trading. That is a whole 'nother thing that must work for some, but doesn't work for me.

What does work for me? Selling what I don't want and buying what I do want... ... assuming Big Brother government will let me.

Default Plastic for Steel

I had a police trade-in S&W M&P .40 that I bought for $299. I offered it for trade on an online gun page. Someone offered me a nickel S&W 15-2 PLUS a 4" S&W 66-1 in a two for one even trade. (The 66-1 had smooth presentation grips on it)

He was in his early 20's and didn't want anything to do with the out-dated, old fogey revolvers that his grand daddy gave him. He called them "cowboy guns".

He was very happy with the trade and needless to say, so was I.

In another happy transaction with someone else, I traded my full size S&W M&P .45 (with 2 mags) for a near mint 4506 with 6 mags and Bianchi shoulder holster.

Those are amazing!!!

Can you tell us your secret? Where do you find these people?

Locally, I only see WTT trades from folks with so-so everyday plastic looking to trade for gold-plated Cadillacs.

I very rarely do a straight trade...I know how I value mine as well as how I value the other...So does the other trader...If there is a value difference in which we can agree, then the balance is paid either in cash or other items......Ben

Actually, there is no secret. Just dumb luck. Both of those deals were unsolicited by me. I just offered the M&P .40 for trade and got the 2 for 1 revolver offer.

In the second instance, my M&P .45 was up for sale and I was offered the 4506 trade.

As a side note, a few months later, the fellow who traded me the 4506 asked me if I'd be interested in trading back. I didn't of course, but it seemed like he had "traders remorse".

I don't do trades. I like to sell as I know what I think it's worth in $. Then buy for the same reason. A trade involves way too many variables and I would always wonder/ feel like I can't put a price on what I traded for. Now of course is someone wants to trade me a Reg Magnum for a model 27 straight up I would likely break my rule!

I would have traded back if he would give enough boot. Pap was a trader and some rubbed off on me. Larry

I have found "trading for cash" more often makes both sides happier.
I have although upon occasion taken trade offers that worked out quite well. I am most often open to offers, cash or other. If the cash level or 'other' offering doesn't float the boat, then the answer is "No, but thank you."

Default Trading?

The whole point of trading is in the value each person places on BOTH items!
The difference in value is called "haggling", the same thing you do when you are trading cash for a gun! If you traded a gun and regretted the trade, you would probably have regretted selling the gun also, unless you sold it for much more that the actual value. If you don't like haggling, don't trade, and never get into a 3 way trade! Been there, done that!

A friend and I traded a 4" MT second model Woodsman back and forth 3 times for different guns. The MT is very close to mint, and when the smoke cleared, I was into the Colt for $300. My friend got what he wanted. Big Larry
