Snagged a M58
I had been looking for another Model 58 for awhile and didn't realize how hard they are getting to find Then I came across this one and grabbed it right away. All mechanics are good, and the bluing shows muzzle wear from being carried in a holster. The stocks are period correct although the numbers do not match. From the serial number I am guessing that it was made in 1969.

Shipped with TH, TT, and TS as per factory letter. Cokes are TS. S serial.

Mine is dressed like yours BUT the TT and TH were added at the SO CAL distributor and the TS are walnut diamond targets.^^^ The letter says mine left the factory in standard attire.

Congrats on your find. I love my m58.
I think there back to harder to find because the playing musical chairs between older owners and newer buyers is about over for now. I see older collectors giving up there stuff. I never seen any used n frames in the past. Browsing 4 to 5 days a week.
My LGS wanted nothing to do with surplus military guns. Being in the right place at the right time he sold off surplus guns for what he paid for them. Months later he caught on he’s losing money. Now there priced higher lol.

Nice catch with just the right amount of character.
The 41 mags in a 57 or 58 were popular with the Detroit officers when I was there in the 70's and Remington had the 210 lead SWC. We could not carry a jacketed round.
Back then you could shoot a fleeing felon and I saw a B&E man that took a round right to the back of his head as he fled the scene. Needless to say, he never stole again. Ah, the good old days.

Nice snag!
I felt pretty secure carrying the Model 58 on patrol. We used the 210 LSC until the Winchester Silver Tip round came out. As it was a lighter bullet, it shot a bit low in my 58, but I just held a little higher and always qualified as an Expert with it.

Mine is S 259878 and shipped 4/22/68 showing how mixed up they could be.
It has a standard trigger but a Target hammer. Letter makes no mention. I assume a previous owner swapped it on. I would scare up a standard hammer and change it but it's too much effort at this point.

Apparently dressing up 58s with aftermarket goodies was a 'thing' back in the 60s/70s.

Well some former owner took dressing up this gun to a whole new level. Model 57 barrel, milled the top strap for an adjustable rear sight, and also most likely added the target trigger and hammer. I added the scope and cokes. It makes a nice companion to my pre Model 29.

GREAT for you...and yes, there are very few for sale anymore and expensive when you do find them...
I've had 10 over the years and still have two...a 1964 that has been parkerized and a 1974 that has been customized...great shooters...

I have just one and it gets a fair amount of use . I even had a friend make a left handed shoulder holster rig for it . I had to fire lap the barrel to remove a couple of tight spots . It's a shooter/ keeper now for sure . A couple of weeks ago my son flew in from Michigan and got started shooting it . He really enjoyed his time with it . Regards Paul

I think events have shown that Justice O'Connor's dissent in Garner was prophetic.
As for that 210 grain JSP, you did not miss out by not being able to carry it. While I did qualify with it just for S&G, it was a hunting load and quite rank to shoot. The lead SWC, although a pain to clean, was a much better duty load. I carried it a bunch and still would if I did not have Silvertips in it.
