S&W M 53 pics,new to me
Been over 5 years since I’ve had a Smith,went all Colt 😂
Couldn’t resist this one from 1961. Looks hardly used since the
Renickel job. No box but inserts seem original,( they fit well). Grips are really nice. Pete

Very nice looking Model 53! Congrats. I bought mine this year and it is certainly enjoyable to shoot. The muzzle flash is a real attention getter at the range. Finding ammo has been somewhat challenging; I found the PPU brand ammo / brass sticks in the cylinder after firing, but vintage Remington ammo / brass did not. Good luck with yours.

That is a very attractive Model 53. It's nice that whoever did the work kept the color case hardened trigger and unique hammer and didn't nickel plate those parts like some Bubba's do.

I can’t prove it’s factory,in the absence of marks. I had a M17
renickeled in 2012 and it had no marks, back in the dayS&W would
stamp R-N or R-B with a star or a diamond shape. The extractor
is still blue and the rest wants me to think it’s factory. It looks as
good as it’s pics. The action is super tight,no endshake or looseness anywhere. B/C gap is .004”. Pete

My nickel M48-3 has the RN, and then cylinder and the bbl. are numbered to the gun. It also has a star on the cyl. and bbl. It is an 8 3/8"er with red ramp sight and white outline rear. Also has a set of Rosewood target stocks, and TH and TT. Someone put a lot of $$$ into this revolver. It is stamped 10-82. It used to belong to a well known Forum member. Big Larry

Very , Very few nickel 53s will letter as nickel guns! When the factory received an order for a nickel 53 they would remove a blue 53 from storage and send it through the finishing dept to be nickeled. The one I have is date stamped on the left side of the grip frame under the grip panel in small numbers with two numbers, the month, usually over the year(last two digits)!

It is my understanding that there were actually only two actual model 53 that shipped as 'factory' nickel. The rest of them were blue steel off-the-shelf nickeled and then sold accordingly.
