A couple questions.
Are you certain that's a "small p"? A number before the D is a possibility, but not another letter. Also, this is the bottom of the grip frame, right?
"On the frame in front of the trigger guard" is not an area for factory marks. If something is there, it's likely by a prior owner, an import mark or a proof mark if the gun was shipped overseas and back.

Pictures would help answer the questions.

The mark in front of the trigger guard sounds a lot like the JP-plus-number marking which is most likely Jordanian police. The location and format is correct for that. Could you be mis-reading the f in the j f you described?

Unless, as mentioned, you are misreading a number before the D, the P on the butt can have nothing to do with the serial or S&W and would likely also relate to the foreign user.

Welcome! D51552 is the full serial number and indicates it was made in 1968. There are always extra stampings on the side of the grip frame but some of what you describe are probably inventory or other markings from whomever owned it previously.
