Default $3K 66 snub. The epitome of GB bidding insanity.

Mods please delete if this has been posted already, but i couldn't find it elsewhere..

2 desperate bidders have gone insane. The highest bid from someone with some common sense was $840.
Congrats to the seller.

And to think I gave one of those to a good friend just a couple of years ago.

I had a gun on GB once time and was hoping to get $2500 for it.

Two guys got in a bidding war and I ended up with over $5000.

Don't drink and bid. LOL

Sideplate screw slots damaged, rear sight finish damage, sight tang screw damaged, rust on the head of the grip screw, thumbpiece nut damaged.....that's just some of what we can see on the outside.

Wow.....a filthy, cosmetically challenged example from the late 70's. Priceless.

I've got one not quite as nice as that one. I want to be up front and say it has some timing issues, but I'd let it for for $2,500 if anyone wants a deal.....

Use the runnerup's feedback to look at what he's been buying-
30-30 ammo at $2.50/rd? 12ga slugs at over $2/rd? An 870 riot gun for $1650? 380 ammo for $2.50/rd? 38 Sp Critical Defense at $3.60/rd? Does he know something we don't?

Dealers run pretend auctions to raise the amount they get out of their inventory. All they have to do is report their shill bid as a non-paying buyer then their scam costs them nothing. Inexperienced buyers are tricked into believing the high price they pay is less than they could resell it for.

I'll beat your price.. how about (2) 66 snubs for $2500..free shipping, and all those spare round butt grips that are collecting dust.
Actually, I've been considering selling sell one of them and stumbled upon that link to GB. Prices are all over the place. Can't imagine how pumped up the seller must be...IF it is legit...but i can't see a shill bidder raising the bid twice after they already have the winning bid...and certainly not in such large increments. If that were the case, they hooked a real big sucker fish.

Well right now there is a 2 model 66s for way less than that, and an NIB 3" for less, so maybe they should shop around. Course Its right up there with the chopped up glock that went for 8 grand a week ago,. I bid up to 1600 a week ago on a 4" 17-6. Like new , I have a shooter one but always wanted a nicer one. This one, the 3 letter serial number was my initials so I went higher than I would have normally, I think it went for 18-19 hundred. Definitely a lot of crazy prices lately. Makes you want to sell a few. But I wouldnt send it till the check clears and then some...

I bought my first 66 in 1976 for $250, pre-owned but unfired. I presumed the policeman who sold it to me bought it at a LEO discount and made a killing but I wanted it and wanted it without a paper trail, but $120? I got screwed. I should dig him up and demand a partial refund.

Someone must have been hankering for a poorly treated grungy gun at any price.

Boogered plate and sight screws as well as a boogered cylinder release nut sets off alarms for myself.

Some people just have more dollars than sense. A fool and his money are soon parted. What I want to know is how did they get together in the first place?

Shipping was only $20, and no 3% Credit card fee. A real bargain.

It's tempting to put my 317 no dash snub on the block-maybe I can get 5k for it if I I dress it up with the pink grips I got from a forum member BTW anyone who had ever shot a351C or any 22 mag snub without ear protection will remember it for a LONG time

I got one added but it was $200 for 20 of those super special bullets, not the simply ones (you know the ones with a hole in the end).

This particular auction seems to be just a new user and another bidder who both have no knowledge and more money than brains. I agree with you though, last few years gunbroker has become notorious with lots of top sellers on there shilling auctions left and right.

I had the idea a year ago that I was going to get a M66. I even bought the grips for it. Then things started going nuts on pricing. i will pay a premium for something nice, but I will not pay stupid money.

The grips are on a M67

I sold a 4" Charter Arms .22 Mag to my last boss I had before retiring. He came in the next day telling me he couldn't believe how loud it is.
He didn't want to shoot it before buying it, I gave him a box of 40 Gn Winchester Super X hollow points for it and he left for home. Got home loaded the gun and leaned against his garage and shot it with no ear protection.

I'm with you there...I decided some time ago I'd like another Model 66, 2.5" round butt, and an acquaintance who takes a table at a few local gun shows has a pristine example that he has tried to talk me into on several occasions, but until he reduces his price to what I'm willing to pay, he can keep it...If he gets lucky and finds a new home for it at his price, so be it; if not I'll find another at my price......Ben

Well, he/she won, so there's that . . lots of NR shill bidders ...goes to 1's and 0's for accounts IE its not a person just a account. I will say given the state of Dolts in America today there are nit wits paying lots of $$$ for arms....then again a Model 10 and 50 rds is worth a Rolex when your near life and death riots.

Wow.....a filthy, cosmetically challenged example from the late 70's. Priceless.
And to think, I recently purchased one exactly like it, except mine was ANIB/unfired condition, for a 1/3 of that price. Darn, I didn't get a holster, though.

That's what I'm beginning to think also, trying to drive the perceived value up when they post for real.

Another reason not to buy on GB or other online auctions. It's like buying a car on Mecum to use as a daily driver.

I wouldn't let that stop me from buying on GB, just not getting into auctions like this. I agree there's got to be some shenanigans there. Maybe someone is laundering money...

If so, he/she was lousy at it. A shill bid normally stops right above the high bid of the target bidder. And you certainly wouldn't bid up to a nonsensical level of such as $3,000.
If they think they can get people to pay $3K for snubs on a regular basis, they're smoking good stuff I guess...
But still, it's hard to believe that there are two people who could be that clueless and not do any research before bidding.

I've been selling on GB since they started almost 20 years ago... In the last 6 months I have had as many non-paying bidders as I have had in the other 20 years combined. All of them had just registered in the last few months.

Dealer friend same thing...has had a half dozen non-paying bidders in the last three months...

That said I have had several new GB Buyers come right through with the money...

Lots of shenanigans on GB lately IMO. Lots of new shooters that aren’t well versed in sales/gun buying etiquette, panic buyers who throw money at otherwise forgettable guns, and shill bidders.

Keystone Arms is the apex for insane prices and bidding wars.

I would be interested to know if the seller will get his money and ship out that snub.

If he used a shill bidder to drive up the price, then no.

If it was a prank bidder playing with him, then no.

If it was a legit bidder, then yes.

I vote for no.

There's a premium that has to be paid for a 2.5" model 66. Everyone knows that.

I have 66-1 snub that I have described on this forum as having been around the block. Once or three times.
It looks better than the subject gun.
All those dark spots and what appears to me an obvious going over with a scotch pad.
However, I almost caved in and paid $100 for 1K small rifle primers the other day. Just saying

Apparently my accusation was not clear to everyone. I believe dealers use two computers to make two shill bidders run up their item with no intention of a sale occurring. The magic number seems to be about triple the item's reasonable price. Then they can price the stuff on their shelf at 50% over market and hope their victim will believe that's half of what he might be able to sell it resell for. The dealer need only report the high shill bidder as a non-paying buyer and it cost them nothing.

If it was a legit couple of buyers in a bidding war, I won't judge, I've been there and let my emotions get the best of me, LOL!

A couple years ago I was bidding on a 1973 Chiefs Special, and got in a war with two other bidders. It ended up going for STUPID money, and luckily I got wise and backed out of the war.

It was a neat nickel 36 shipped in my birth year, so my irrational side of me almost cost me a bunch of money.

If you're curious, it sold for over $1300!!

For a nickel 36.

Crazy
