Default Questions about 19-4 stocks and sights

Recently acquired a 1979 19-4 and the rear sight will not tighten down, it appears to be missing some sort of nut or retainer. Is this the case and where can I get one. Also the stocks do not appear to be for this gun since they have what appears to be a hole for a swivel although they do appear to be the right type. My question is does anyone have any ideas what the other four holes are for?

The little screw that holds the sight secure screws into the top strap and there is not a nut involved. Either the screw is stripped or the threads in the top strap are. I am guessing it is the screw(hopefully). As for the grips and the numerous holes in the bottom, I think someone possibly had some kind of base plate attached. Good luck.

I’m talking about the back screw that adjusts the elevation. There is no hole in the top strap here. There is a cutout that looks like some kind of plate slides into it. Elevation stud?

Concur that either the sight screw or the threaded hole in the top strap is stripped. Removal and inpection will tell the tale.

It was fashionable for some owners -- usually cops -- to have a brass plate fitted to the bottom of the stocks to "personalize" the gun. The plate possibly served the purpose of protecting the wood stocks, but more likely had some sort of engraving with owner's name or some other information engraved on it.

Somebody may be along to post a photo showing an example.

Thea metal butt plates were popular in the 1970's. They were popular with Cops.
