Ugh Model 37 flat latch is going to SW
Well Teddy Jacobson called and said he has worked on the 37 and its not good. The ratchet is damaged and due to this the timing cant be fixed by Him. He is sending it to SW... ugh.

If I recall correctly, the flat-latch went away in the mid-1960's, so it is not a shocker that S&W will not service it.

I think that is a good suggestion.

nope the shop I got it from took it back. They are parting it out. It was the center pin hole on the recoil shield. the left side was oblong and per Smith unrepairable

There are a lot of Chief's Specials in the world, finding one ought to be easy.
What are you planning to do with it?

Well it's too late now, since you returned the gun. But many gunsmiths know how to fix this. A steel bushing is installed to replace the oblong hole. The repair is better than new and they way S&W makes them now.
The factory does not do this kind of repair on any of its guns, regardless of age. But it will replace a worn bushing on guns in which they originally installed bushings when they produced the guns.
