Unusal College Graduation Gift
Most young people get a college ring, a watch or something else that signifies they graduated from college. Well, my path is a little different. My graduation gift was a 8 3/8", Target Trigger, Target Hammer, Model 27-2, N217944! I think this gun was shipped in 1975-76 as I got it in Jun 1976. So I know what you are thinking-show us the pictures!

In Presentation Case I bought for it

It is what I read as rare-a 2 latch presentation case

Original Box

Left Side

Right Side
I did have a pair of smooth Rosewood Targets on it previously and it does shoot like a house on fire.
Enjoy!

I graduated five times and never got a gun.
I am not an expert but I think all 8" cases had two latches. Couple here, no?

Not unusual to some of us. My son got a Glock 26 for HS graduation. 4 years later trying to sway him more towards revolvers, I handed over one of my S&W 442's for college graduation. Now he has both summer and winter carry options.

Bill:
What is the world coming to - two threads started in the last few days and two Model 27's without a Heavy Duty in sight... You really are a closet .357 Magnum fan aren't you. I love your graduation 8 3/8"er. Thanks for sharing it with us.
For HS Graduation my dad and mom (mostly dad, as mom wanted to give me an electric typewriter ) bought me a 6" Ruger Security Six. It is built like a tank and it will always be my first revolver, but it is still my only Ruger revolver. All the rest are Smiths with a few pony guns sprinkled in for good measure.

topics drifting a bit, the afternoon of my college graduation at Nebraska, had lunch at a pancake house, then in the evening headed SE to Ft Benning, to begin my 30 year army career. In my new '69 Dodge Charger R/T. My first issue weapons were a 1911 and an M14. Last week bought my first revolver, a 28-2, four inch. The dies and components to make ammo for it will be arriving soon.

I got my B.A, and my local draft board saw to it that the Army presented me with an M-14. I had to give it back later, so it may not count.

A Ruger compact 9mm (along with 500 rounds of ammo, Electronic Earmuffs, cleaning kit, holster, and cash to fund a CCW training and license) is what I gave my Granddaughter for college graduation 4 years ago. Her sisters will be in another year, and I have another all set to go also.

Well, actually, I'm old enough that it was a M-14. All the M16's were pretty busy in 1969.
Me, I had to go to Italy for 2yrs. Somebody had to do it.

I gave my daughter a Benelli Superlight 20 gauge for graduation when she got her masters degree.
It was and is the only shotgun she can hit anything with.

The first time I graduated college I got a new leather recliner.
The second time I got a new wire feed welder.
I'd rather have the OP's M27 than either of them.

The night I graduated college, my second son was born. Busy day, graduation, dinner, trip to hospital, 5/31/71. By the way, was also employed at Smith and Wesson at the time.

When I graduated high school my parents gave me a Remington 870, which I still have.
I didn’t get anything for my college graduation. Dad had been real sick and bills had piled up. I went to work for the county, with my salary added in we were able to get everything paid off in a couple of years. I spent my own money to buy a 19-7 for the new county job.

spent 4 "tours" at Bragg in NC, but never back to Benning since completing ABN and Ranger school in the fall of '69. Bragg was referred to as "FayetteNam" back then. Pretty wild town. I do not know sGT Lyles.
Best wishes, and stay safe,,, SF VET

I am old enough to have US serial #, voluntary induction a year or so after HS. Don't know anything about M14's & M16's. It was an M1 and M1 carbine at Ft. Dix basic, and yes, I got an M1 thumb.

My parents offered to pay for my UT ring when I finished my undergrad a couple years ago... They agreed to pay for me to find a Garand instead. I snagged a CMP Norwegian return for less than the UT costume jewelry. I'm finishing up my masters and I'll happily be getting an Aggie ring instead of a gun! But if only I can decide on what gun to get for my birthday....

My eldest got a Walther P22 when he graduated from college. (I had my father’s K22 and Bisley model Colt SAA by then, but was not into revolvers otherwise.) Several years later he sent himself to Ft Benning for OCS, where I was privileged (as a former officer) to administer and sign his commissioning oath. He got out after 4 years and has been acquiring firearms at a respectable pace ever since. Last week he was asking about the benefits of a Mountain Gun as a take-it-along-on-a-hunt gun, so I’ve been able to rub some of the revolver love off onto him.

My senior year at college one of my good friends asked me if I was getting a class ring. I told him no way would I spend money on a ring, I'd rather have a gun! After graduation I purchased a Colt King Cobra in .357 Magnum and still have it. I suspect it is worth considerably more than that ring would have been.
