Default Model 34-1 Back Together

This is mainly about my new 34-1 non-pinned variation but is shown with another 34-1 with pinned barrel. The 2" SB nickel had some mechanical problems (see smithing section) but it is good now. While I had it apart I installed an 8 lb. hammer spring and a 12 lb. rebound spring. Feels great and all 4 brands of .22 ammo went bang with every trigger pull, and it functions like new.

The other 34-1 (2", RB, blue), has a pinned barrel and both can be found in the -1. The nickel gun is an M prefix from about 1981, so once again, thanks for the ride S&W. The 4" 34 no dash was put in the picture for fun.

I hope I got all that right as I'm going off my old memory. Love those kit guns!

That they are!

Except for the darker (and not as pretty as yours), smooth banana grips on mine,it could be the twin of your blue RB 34-1. It came with checkered banana grips, but I much prefered the smooth.

I also have a M prefix SB, but the smooth SB targets just overwhelmed that snubby, but look perfect on that 4" 34 of yours. The PC Magnas that came with it are a good size and fit for my hands, but would really like smooth ones. Altamont has them, but of course they are "Temporarily Unavailable". Did S&W ever offer the PC Magna's in a smooth version?

One weird thing I noticed when I first got the SB targets was, the factory SB PC Magna's fit almost perfectly in the inletting of the smooth SB Targets. So, you have the size of the PC Magnas, plus the thickness of the targets. A real handful of grip!

As for uncheckered PC magnas, never seen or heard of them.
