Default Revolver model 65-8

I have a model 65-8 and would like to know when was my gun manufactured. Serial number ABK0779

Yes. It is a Model 65-3 and the ABK serial numbers point to 1982, which fits the -3. This would be a fairly early example of the variant without a pinned barrel and counterbored cylinder.

Is there any reason why the gun says 65-8 or maybe it is a 3 instead of 8? I looked at it very closely and it seems ton be an 8.

The serial number can put a pretty close estimate on the gun's age, as Jack noted. There is/was a model 65-8 (a later version of this gun) but it had a multipiece barrel and the internal frame lock, among other changes, and wasn't made until 2005.

Finally, S & W marked these as quickly as possible so stampings are not always clear. 3s look like 8s, 1s like 7s, 8s like 9s, etc. Enjoy!
