The serial number can put a pretty close estimate on the gun's age, as Jack noted. There is/was a model 65-8 (a later version of this gun) but it had a multipiece barrel and the internal frame lock, among other changes, and wasn't made until 2005.
Finally, S & W marked these as quickly as possible so stampings are not always clear. 3s look like 8s, 1s like 7s, 8s like 9s, etc. Enjoy!
