Default Model 27 value

There’s a model 27 3.5in for sale for $500. It has rubber s&w marked grips but the bluing is in poor condition. Does anyone know approx how much it’s worth? The serial is S192412
UPDATE: I was able to purchase it for $475. Thanks to everyone for their input and information.

It is indeed a bit rough. Needs to be checked out mechanically. If lock up, end play, push off, etc are ok, I’d say $500is an ok price. Even still, I’d try to offer less. I think $500 is pretty much your top $ for this gun.

Looks like a Cabelas’ lock. They’ll come down. Offer $400.
Bead blast and parkerize.

That's a 1958-59 gun, the S prefix and the 3.5" barrel brings a premium (20% on the barrel). It's been used, for sure, and given what I've seen the ones with good finishes going for, $500 is on the high end of reasonable, as long as the mechanical function is proper. See if you can get it to $400, but I'd give $500 for it.

Same here. Talk them down if you can, but $500 for a 3 1/2" 27 that you can clean up and shoot is within a few ticks of reasonable.

Any mechanically sound N frame is probably worth at least that these days, but an 'S' prefix 3 1/2" M27 for $500? If lockup was good, I'd definitely take that home!

That gun would come home with me for $500.

I would pony up the $500 if I couldn't get them to come down. A day or 2 soak soak in a kerosesne/ATF/acetone with the grips off, a little bronze wool rub here and there and you would have a great shooter 357. I doubt there is anything worn out or bad with the action. Well made, heavy duty 357 there

If it is mechanically sound, $500 is the top price for that particular Model 27. I would try to get the price reduced due to the replacement front sight and stocks and the relatively poor finish.

PLEASE DO NOT DO WHAT CH4 SUGGESTED.

If you want a shooter leave as is. If you want to refinish do it justice with a nice blue job. Parkerizing is for junk guns.

I would give $500 in a second if mechanically sound. Being the 3 1/2" barrel, not many of those are found nowadays in any condition with a reasonable price. I would polish that thing up and shoot the snot out of it. It being an older gun, the quality of the build was probably very good. Good luck.

I will second this motion! If you buy it, definitely do not have it parkerized. Granted, without the correct front sight and stocks, it has lost it's originality and much of its collector value. I would suggest either a thorough cleaning and oiling or, if you just cannot stand the look of the worn finish, have this one restored. That means lots of money and there are only a few places that can restore these fine revolvers, but if you have it refinished, have it done right and you won't regret it.

Hardly a turn line, so may not have been shot much. I couldn't see if the stop notches were sharp, and a replacement front sight. A little rough on the outside, but does not affect the functioning. I would already own it!

I have an older one than that one, that I bought many years ago for $500. I overpaid, but it was a shooter grade 5 screw and were hard to find at the time. It's a great shooting gun and you wouldn't pry it out of my hands for $500.

I had to chime in again - front sights and grips are some of the easiest things to change - resulting in a gun that you customized for YOU. I love the orphaned ones like that 27. for $500, a 4-screw 3.5" Model 27 would be in my hands almost immediately. I would clean it well, make sure any rust was treated, then off it would go to the Gunsmith (Nelson Ford), where it would get an action job and a McGivern gold bead front sight, just like these two well-used shooters...

Grips are easy to find - even if you grab some Thai grips from eBay.

I'm an adamant "No" on the refinishing that guy - too many dents and well earned bruises...

Yes, I'm in the buy it now camp. If you can get it for less, fine, but I'd pay the $500. I offered $800 for a 3.5 inch no dash in a little better condition and the guy who had it wouldn't sell it.

Wow, I'd be on that like a duck on a june bug.
I don't need nor can I afford a safe queen in that configuration.
I'd like a shooter like that!!
