Default OK, so I'm a lousy shot.

I shot my 1964 M-29-2 for the very first time today.
Its a beautiful S&W.

Here's the range I shoot at. Its here in the park about a mile from my front door.
The gates always locked so there's never anyone here.
The targets are just over 50'.

My friend loaded these for me some time back. Just 48 rounds.

Poor little girl took the first round.

The second round took off his trigger finger and the third round took out his two front teeth.

I put 47 holes in two targets.
One round mysteriously didn't puncture the paper.

Now to find more .44 Magnum ammo AND, I have a gun to clean.

Obviously evidence of a tear in the space-time continuum. Better be careful next time you put up targets, never know when that round will emerge from the wormhole.

Seriously, two rounds have been known to go through the same hole. I just think that my explanation is more original, so I am sticking with it...

Look at it a different way - If that target was a big bullseye, the first shot would have been a 9-ring!

Take the girl’s cheek graze out of it, looks like a decent center of mass shot.

The often overlooked reason for stray bullets is solar flares and lunar gravity. If the moon can raise an ocean tide 10-30 feet every 12hrs. Your 200gr bullets don’t stand a chance.

That they are. They are going to die from lead poisoning.

Junipers with some pinion pine mixed in.

On a positive note, seeing as how you were using a 44 mag, you killed them both with the first shot

I don't think she was a hostage, I think she's a co-conspirator. She doesn't look frightened at all. You did the right thing and took them both out of the equation. Excellent marksmanship !

Yes and no. I live in a state park and the gun range is past the gate and over the top of the hill.
The gate is always locked.

We rent the area out to large groups like Mountain Man Rendezvous, Boy Scouts and our
state park LEOs do their annual training in there and we do a few state park activities.

Its empty about 99% of the time so I can use it just about any time.

The coolest thing we do in there is we have a huge inflatable movie screen
and a great sound system and in the summer we do drive-in movies. Its awesome.

Very nice revolver!

I remember when I used to be able to go out any time I wanted and shoot guns. Back when ammo was available.....a year ago.....

But I know...The Jasons' are on it. They ain't sandbagging or stockpiling....it's "Out There".....We're all just conspiracy theorists....

"A lousy shot"? Yes scratching crawlies can be bad for concentration while shooting. I have improved after I started using flea and tic shampoo.

Really? I will not show you mine, 50 yrd & 300 yrd is part of MY backyard. I have stretched it to 500 yd on a diagonal, unfortunately I have to go else where for 1000 yd. We have had minimal snow this year, just over 60", usually I will have a 13ft high in the center and about 12 ft wide pile of plowed snow on the edge of the driveway by Feb., great fun to take suppressed items, with or without Night vision ( depending on the moon ) for a little 2-3 AM shooting when my back will not let me sleep. I know photo's, tried last week for many hrs and nothing worked. Be Safe,

Kenny—You are like me. People have various methods like Weaver and Cooper. I went to the Pea-Eyed Parker School of Sharp-shooting.

Pea Eye Parker : [Indians have attacked Gus & Pea, on a scouting expedition, wounding both] They're gonna try sneakin' up on us in the dark, ain't they Gus?
Gus McCrae : be takin' a chance if they do, couple of sharp-shooters like us
Pea Eye Parker : I ain't no sharp-shooter. I usually miss if I ain't got time to take careful aim
Gus McCrae : 'y god but it's depressin' to talk to you, Pea.

Nice looking revolver. That target bay sure looks farther than 20 yds unless you walked closer to shoot. Use a smaller target - aim small miss small is what I’ve always believed. Paper plates and a sharpie dot in the center are cheap and come in different sizes. Try some .44 specials if you can find them. Neat public range.

I went to an IDPA match in 2001 where a uniformed officer showed up to compete with his carry arms.

He was the only competitor to shoot a hostage.

On the plus side he was so impressed with my Browning Hi Power he said he would start carrying one.

Good looking 29 you have there....and KUDOS for you actually practicing in this hoarding stage the country is in.

Thank you.

My close friend who reloads my ammo was a SWAT member for 15 years and a SWAT instructor for 3 years.

He always says, "KENNY!! Start at 15 feet and work your way back. Quit starting at 50 feet!!"

I tell him I have no problem hitting the target from 15 feet but find 50 feet more challenging. LOL

It would be nice if I could come in here and tell everyone that I can shoot the antenna off an ant from 100 yards with my 640-1 loaded with 125 gr .357 Magnum loads, but I can't.

I love pulling the trigger whether the bullet hits anything or not but I am extremely pleased and proud of myself when it does.

And I get the biggest kick put of shooting hot magnum loads.

Kenny , looks like a real nice 29-2 . If using 240 gr bullets , EK's mid range load of 8.5 grs of Unique makes a real nice " shoot all day load " . I would definitely refrain from shooting EK's " magnum load " using 22 grs of 2400 powder . Your 29-2 does not have the endurance pkg . The gun won't blow up , just really increase wear . I realize that you're not a reloader , but just thought a little knowledge about what's good and what's not so good for your gun might be good to know . You said you like to shoot hot magnum loads ? Regards Paul

Thank you very much for the heads up. I appreciate it.

The gun wont be getting shot much. I asked my friend to load me some hot ones so he loaded those 48 rounds for me.

I have another 50 rounds of PMC Bronze 180 gr JHP. I don't know if I'll ever shoot those or not.

I'll have Bryan load me some more that aren't soo hot.

On the brighter side of things, I am glad to see you were not shooting zombies.
I am usually more concerned about people who use zombie targets than zombies.

Not much smells better than Juniper, its burns HOT, but it pops a bit. Mule deer brows on it too.

My range bag has a stack of the real cheap paper plates and jumbo black magic marker. Use em for rifle and pistol. I can make the dot how ever I want,

When I started cleaning it I realized that I never have, just a quick Flitz a couple of years ago. It was actually pretty dirty.

Its clean now and probably will be for a while.

If we could I would. I enjoy cleaning them.

Had lunch with a good friend today and over 1 year ago we went to the same range and he brought is 4" 29-2. I asked him if he has ever cleaned it and he said no. It had belonged to his dad.

I told him I need to get it from him so I clean it. I'm sure it needs it, bad.

Reminds me of a story I heard:

A recruiting sergeant from the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) was traveling through South Georgia when he spots road signs, old barns, most any flat surface, has a circle with a bullet hole directly in the center. He gets into town, asks at the gas station who did all the shooting and Sarge is sent to Bubba's house on the edge of town. Once there, everywhere he looked, there were those circles with the bullet holes dead center. The sarge goes to the house and meets Bubba, a 20 year old good old boy. He asks and Bubba says, "Yep, that's my shooting." Sarge asks if Bubba would like to join the Army and his entire duty would be with the AMU, shooting all day, every day. Bubba smiles and says he'll sign up!

A couple of weeks later, Sarge is in his office and gets called to the range where Bubba is doing his basic training marksmanship qualification. The range officer tells Sarge that Bubba can't hit squat! The recruits take a break and Sarge goes to the line to talk to Bubba, wanting to know what's wrong. Bubba tells Sarge the Army don't shoot the way he shoots. Sarge hands Bubba a cartridge and says, "Show me how YOU shoot."

Bubba chambers the round, takes aim and fires. Bubba and Sarge walk down range, where Bubba takes out a Magic Marker and draws a circle around the bullet hole.

Ever seen an Army sergeant cry?
