Interesting gun. early because it still has a leaf main spring. Ivory grips and a cut down front sight and a de horned hammer. I would bet it spend time with someone who needed it

My kind of tool -- strictly business (okay a little grip bling).

I like it. Just the right amount of wear and the screws look like they have never been touched. If someone went inside it, they probably knew what they were doing by not buggering up the screws, as so many old revolvers have messed up screws. Thanks for showing.

Rode hard and put up wet comes to mind. You could send it to Fords. Or use it as a throwaway? You said that you could take it.

auction ended at 8:00 pm tonight. i was really hoping that someone besides me would think the grips were ivory. second revolver that i bought for the grips. the other was an early hand ejector with jigged bone. thank you all. without the knowledge gleaned here from you good people i may not have bid on it. after tax, shipping and dealer transfer i'm going to be in for $530 but it's got ivory grips. did i ever mention i like nice grips. any advise on how to revive the grips would be greatly appreciated. thanks again, krs

I like it. Someone on this forum used to recommend soaking ivory grips in mineral oil overnight and then wiping off the excess.Said he did it about once year

Nice find with the ivory stocks.
I'm not sure what the earlier reference to the leaf spring meant, but this is a Model 10 from about 1969 or 1970. The K frames all had a leaf spring.
Should be a fun shooter.

I get that you bought it for the grips but those grips sure look like they shrunk up a bit.....will be interesting to see how well they match up to whatever it is they wind up on.

yes sir they don't look too well fitted. if i can get them cleaned up a little
i'll be happy if the fit is less than perfect. i didn't expect to see any that were within my price range and they came with a snubby 10-5. i think i can make it work for me. i'll let you folks in on the final details once i get them in hand, but their ivory. how bad could the fit be not to please a working fellow with limited funds. krs

Well, you asked for thoughts, so here is the only one I had:
Are people really able to eject the cases with that stubby rod?
Regards,
Andy

If the grips don’t work as you want on a K square butt you can possibly have them fit to a round butt? Neat old snubbie.

As some one kindly pointed out to me it has a leaf main because it is a K frame. I saw the snub and my brain just went J frame without noticing the cylinder. What is really bad about it is I have an early 2" K frame and should know better.

Kenny,
That looks like someone's carry gun, and that someone had taste!
The ivory looks at least as old as the gun, if not older. If you were really concerned about keeping the pair together, you could round-butt the frame and re-profile the ivory. Maybe a soak in some mineral oil would help?
Either way, that is my kind of gun!

With just the knurled tip you can push the end of the rod flush with the face of the yoke and that only leave 1/2 the case in the cylinder and if you do it muzzle up, as you should, the cases will usually just fall out from there, especially if you give the rod a vigorous push when you do it. but, if you have to reload a snub like that after 6 rounds, the ejector rod isn't you biggest problem.

The GOOD news is that now that the ivory has aged fully, it will (probably) no longer shrink; so, whatever you fit it to, should fit and stay 'fit'.
IMHO as always,
J.

You were nice enough to show your ‘bought for the grips’ gun so I thought that I’d show you mine. I’m a sucker for a NS. Once upon a time mine was a .455 British Colt new service but the frame was very pitted, bbl cut [I cut it some more], someone rebarreled and recylindered it to .357 and it had busted ivories. Left side is ok but the right side has a chunk missing from the front. I did the fitz to it figuring that I couldn’t hurt it. My thoughts were that the grips could be repaired or reshaped to a smaller framed Colt. The bbl shroud was a silliness that I did playing around but my ultimate thinking is to build a copy of Deckard’s Blade Runner blaster out of it. The ‘blaster’ grips fit my hand but now I need to build the shrouds to go around the rest of it.

I guess that if it is a 10-5, the grips are much older than the gun.

ok folks you all seem interesed so here we go. 10-5 in pretty good shape considering it looks like someone , sometime, tossed it out the window of a moving vehicle.
a couple of the skid marks makes me think it slid for a ways after initial impact.
on barrel end of cylinder there was enough metal displaced that in 1 spot the cylinder wouldn't turn any more. gouges on end of barrel, not past outside of crown.
the frame imediately above grip and end of clylinder lock peened. nothing effecting operation.
after a few minutes with a small fine file i had cylinder moving freely though dry fireing.
the ivory grips had a spot of roadrash bottum edged of right hand grip. cleanded off some foriegn matter in a couple of places. cleaned with toothbrush and oil and i like em.
plan on leaving revolver and grips togeather for now and work into carry rotation.
sorry no new pics but will try to fix that soon. thanks to all of you for your input. oh by the way model 10-5 2 inch barrel serial D166095, as always, thanks to all for replies and advice, krs
