My "Madeleine de Proust"
I finally found it !
The twin brother of the first duty revolver that I recieved when I joined the Customs Administration, in a Border Patrol at the border between France and Switzerland, more than 25 years ago ...
It was a Smith & Wesson Model 13, 3" barrel, with Magna grips, and a few weeks later, I was allowed to changed them for a set of Pachmayr Compact for a better grip.
It was not as nice as this one, it had been issued to many officers before me before it arrived in my holster .
It was a very common duty weapon for male Customs officers. Women used to wear 2" Mod 36. And everybody used to load on's revolver with .38 Special rounds, round nose FMJ in 148 grains.
In my souvenir, I think it was a 13-3, not P&R, but now, I have the choice, I prefer them pinned and recessed ...
I found this 13-2 for only 250 *, peanuts ...
It's really in good condition, and even the grips are match numbered with the gun !
An idea of its date of birth ?

Nice gun you did well.
Looks like oversees also used that rather insufficient "police load" in their 38s! Well at least it did not kick too bad in those little 36s!

Good catch. An amazing number of people are buying police trade in 4" square butts and paying a gunsmith to alter them to that configuration.
A lot of them get caught up in the enthusiasm and pay a lot for additional cosmetics, like flats down the sides of the barrel.

We are all in search of lost time...or timing, as the case may be.
Great find, OP -- enjoy.

What does your 250 E mean in U.S. dollars? Just curious. Beautiful revolver.

Welcome aboard from old Wyoming.
"Madeleine de Proust"
I was not familiar with the term so I had to research its meaning.
What an elegant way to describe you grand find. Congratulations.

I second this post.
I always find it interesting to hear from guys in other countries about their guns and interests.

not exactly my "Madeleine de Proust", but nearly a twin of rem.44's 13-2. bought it 2 years ago for 230 * from an estate of a hunter, who obviously did not even fire one whole box...
original looks
[IMG] [/IMG]
dressed with Ahrends Retro Bananas
[IMG] [/IMG]
older than rem.44's, proof fired in Germany in 1978

regards

Ouch !!!! It's even more beautiful than mine !
Really gorgeous, congratulations !
And those Ahrends are really nice : I particularly love the Banana grips, especially without the finger grooves !
With this barrel length, they just bring a perfect aesthetic balance !

Thanks !
And I didn't know the expression "two-bit" : I really love !
In France, we would say : cowboy de pacotille .

Ah, ha. Thank you.
We also use "two-bit" to denote "cheap junk," as per my French translator, but my intent was different when I chose my screen name.
Two bits is another term for an American quarter, quarter dollar, or 25-cent piece.
When the U.S. mint was producing the 50 states quarter collection, the sole artwork on the Wyoming quarter was our state's famous "cowboy," ergo: two-bit cowboy.
