Default Value on a Model 53-2

I am seriously considering this one.
It is a 53-2 with the most common 6" barrel and comes with the original box and inserts, but no documents or tools.
I haven't seen or handled it in person yet, but it appears to be in excellent condition from the two photos I have (below).

I'm thinking that around $900 is my top dollar offer.
Any thoughts or opinions greatly appreciated.

If you can buy it for $900, grab it.

Like the man said, "If you can buy it for $900, buy it!". If $900 won't do it, then untie the sock and fork over the bucks, if you really want it.

Have a friend that is thinking of buying one. He has a .22 RemJet rifle.

I haven't seen one for less than $1000 for several years and definitely not one with the inserts. I paid $1000 for a no dash six inch a couple years ago and the one you're considering looks to be in better condition and I didn't get the inserts. I haven't seen one for less since. Great fun to shoot, plenty of flash and bang and no recoil.

There were a couple on GB recently that sold in the $900-$950 range, and a few auctions with that type of starting price that closed with no bidders.

I already have 4 boxes of ammo for it - two of original Remington Kleenbore and two of PPU. I just lucked into them in two separate deals.

The way I look at it, you can always piss away $900 on just about anything. I'd buy that gun first though.

Well, went and saw it in person today. It is just as nice as it looks in the pictures - just the faintest hint of a turn line and not another blemish on it as far as I could see. The box was 95% - its only flaw was one corner was separated at the metal clip. The big surprise was that it comes with FIVE boxes of factory ammo, one box of reloads, and three more boxes of reloadable brass.

The seller wanted $1,100 and with all the ammo, I upped my offer a bit and we settled on $1,050. I figure the 5 boxes of factory ammo are worth $250 minimum at firesale prices. So the gun is costing me less than $800

So now I have another caliber to add to the loading bench.

Congratulations. Did it hurt to much to untie the sock and take out an extra $150 to be able to buy it?

Now post more pictures.

Well, considering that I got 5 boxes of ammo and 400 rounds of brass (considering the reloads as just brass) for that "extra" $150, I was glad to do it!

It will be a little bit before I can post pics. We have to meet at a local FFL to do the transfer and the FFL will be holding it for 10 days while the state diddles around "vetting" me before I get to bring it home. Expect pics in about two weeks

Glad I live where we can do "private party sales". If you use an FFL the state mandates a three day wait, unless you have a CCW and then you can take it as soon as the paperwork is done.

Yeah, I could say the same - up until about 18 months ago.
Things change - sometimes for the worse...

I speak with vast experience when I say, in a week you’ll have totally forgotten about the $1050, but you’ll still have a cool gun and a smile. Congrats on your acquisition.

I hear you. But keep in mind, this will be the most expensive gun in my collection. Probably one of the three most valuable. My 2" Target Chiefs Special and my 29-3 Classic Hunter are the only ones in the same ballpark for value, or at least very close.
