K frame target grips age?
Hi,
I'm trying to get an informed idea of the age of these K frame grips.
They appear to be a nice non-diamond, "football" style target grip set with silver medallions and black washers. No numbers or other identifying markings. I assume they are walnut. Are there any other criteria?
Thanks for your help and expertise!
Jim

Before ‘69
Sorry I can’t be more specific, unfortunately I am not as smart as I look.

Grips are described, with year ranges, in the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson.

I've got the 2nd edition, but it's rather vague on the topic.
Maybe I need a more recent edition.
Some of the terminology I mentioned are things that I've only heard from members here on the forum.

1968-1974 is the best time frame I can give you.
Regards
Paul

I thought the black washers went extinct around ‘69.

According to THE book, SCSW IV, pgs 37-38, The diamond center was discontinued about 1967~68, so these came later than that. The blued stamped insert discs were discontinued around 1973, but overlapped with the silver stainless disks since 1970 (on stainless steel guns since 1960). The flush escutcheons (spelling?) were also replaced around 1973, seen on the unrelieved half of the stocks above on the left of pic. The speed loader cut started replacing the football relief around the mid-70's.
Hope that helps
