Nothing wrong with a jig. When I converted my Model 28-2 to round butt I used a set of K frame round butt magnas as my template.

I have the Pacific jig and have used it by clamping it in place and then with a very sharp scribe, scribing the "grind to" line. Worked very well. I also have their Yoke alignment tool.

I also have done modifying two K-frames square butt to round butt with a scribe to draw a cut to line using a set of round butt grips as the guide. I would be sure to get a set of round butt grips and compare them to the jig to be sure the size is correct before cutting any metal.
