Default Scored an engraved Model 58 today!Updated with Hi Res photos

I was looking for something a little different in a M58 and spotted this being auctioned today at Rock Island Auctions.

I was fortunate to win the auction and it will soon be on its way!

I would 'speculate' that it's not factory only because I can't recall a lettered engraved 58 showing up on the forum.
Maybe the others will chime in.
It is a beauty!!!.

Be sure to post that one over on the 58 Club. It will be the first engraved 58 to be posted if my feeble memory serves....

Neat gun!

I posted at your link but seems like it is not a different forum but just a comment thread on this one?

Chris,

The 58 club is a thread in the 1961-1980 S&W forum. It is a place for 58 owners to post their pictures, share pet loads, and swap some stories. Even folks who do not own a 58 yet are welcome to come and participate. It was this S&W forum that got me interested in the model 58's even though I had owned Smith & Wessons for many years - I had never heard of, or seen a model 58. Now I own several

Yours is really quite neat. I can't wait to see what Roy Jinks has to say about it. We have a lot of factory engraved guns (and several experts on such), but I can't say that any of them have seen a factory engraved model 58. It would be super cool (and valuable) if it was done at S&W.

I saw that revolver in person during the preview before the auction. It is very nicely done! Congratulations!

Very, very nice addition. You said you were looing for a .41, and here it is, a shiny one, too! I never saw such a pretty M58....

I'm learning from another thread that the factory engraved guns have the trademark on the left side.

In the two photos I have I don't see a trademark on either side.

I will inspect it closer when I have it and will be ordering a letter.

It looks like the trademark is on the side plate.

Default 3 inch engraved M-58

Previously posted here but probably not in the club, this 3 inch engraved Model 58 belongs to Joe Kent. My picture, however.

It was one of a series of self-defense style handguns the original owner had customized and engraved in a common theme.

That gold fill must have taken forever. It is truly a work of art. The only thing that I don't get is the gold wash on the hammer and trigger, they spent a lot of time and effort everywhere else, but the hammer and trigger get a wash treatment....maybe I am missing something? or is the light playing tricks on my eyes?

Yes, it is a wash for some reason.

Chris,

It is a great piece regardless. I would be proud to own it (and then promptly case color the hammer & trigger).

Thanks for taking the time to post the full-size pics, you could always start an album here on the forum to reduce reliance on 3rd party sites.

Take care.

Scott

Thanks, Scott.

Down the road I will set up some albums.

Good thought on the case hardening.

Have to consider that!
