Today I bought a M51 with red ramp front, white o/l rear and wide target trigger> I have never seen a rr front on a 51 and this one looks original when I compare it with my other models that I know are factory original by the box. If it isnt the workmanship is perfect. Anyone have a RR model 51?
Can't say about a 51, but I did buy a 34 that had the RR front with WO rear. It was in the early 70's. It came straight from our distributor, so I guess it was factory.
A two-tone is a blue and nickel finish - sometimes called a pinto. Mine has a blue frame with a nickel barrel and cylinder. They were not catalogued so they are somewhat unusual, especially in a J-frame.
Very interesting. The only other M51 with RR I have found is one on an old Gunbroker auction, it was a nickle gun. I will post photos of my 51 with RR and TT tomorrow. Bob
I dont know about 51's, but I have a late pre-model 17 K22 with a red ramp front sight, and a early 25 no dash 1955 target with a white outline rear sight...both factory
I believe the Red Ramps and White Outlines Sights go back to the days of the King Gun Sight Company because there are many exampled of pre War guns that 'Letter' with these options. As for the Target Trigger it depends upon just when your gun was built because option could be Special Ordered up until the '68GCA but then these kinds of things became something of a random item installed by the fitter - or so I've been told - but normally the TT was only installed with the Target Hammer as well. The Target Stocks were later added and the combination became known as the "3 Ts" and the price was adjusted somewhat accordingly.
But, any of these options could be ordered and the gun could be sent back to the Factory or many Pistolsmiths were able to install these options.
Target triggers (.400") were an option on J frames until the early 70's.
I owned a 35 with a target trigger. It must have been a relatively rare option, even in '72. It came from Beck & Gregg in Atlanta with smooth target stocks. I don't recall if they were numbered to the gun or not.
I just wish I'd bought up the nickel 51's and 43's that languished on the shelves.
