25-4 25-3 125th Deluxe Anniversary Engraved SN question
I have come into possession of a S&W 25 Deluxe 125th Anniversary Class A Engraved full set with the book and coin. The book is personalized with a signature from Roy Jinks himself. This appears to be the 1 of 50 engraved versions as everything matches up. The confusing part is the yolk is stamped 25-3 and the SN in S&W0085. From my research it appears these were stamped 25-4 and the SNs for the 50 were in blocks of 10. Example (0010, 0020, all the way to 0500) I have attached some pictures. Any ideas?

Welcome! The information you quote is out of the standard S & W reference book, but you appear to have physical proof the information is not correct . Chances are it was a standard 125th Anniversary gun that was taken out of inventory to be a Deluxe model.
The gentleman who signed your book is still writing letters of authenticity and I think this would be an interesting gun for his comments. Sending the photos with the letter request may even have him recall the person mentioned on the book inscription.

125th Anniversary Deluxe Edition
I believe the presentation case for the Deluxe Edition has a full length piano hinge. Also, the case interior is cutout to fit target grips that were fitted on the standard Anniversary Edition.

Reason: Closer examination of case interior

The inscription in the book also states that it (the book) was a separate item. I.e. not part of an anniversary package. Appears to be a "put-together" anniversary package. Doesn't take away from the fact that it is a beautiful gun.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

Thank you!
Thanks for the info everyone. Much appreciated. I am going to go the route of obtaining a letter, it does appear that it may be a "pieced together" Deluxe model. Still does not explain the SN discrepancy though.

Not sure to what discrepancy you are referring. Somebody took a regular issue 25-3 anniversary gun, serial # S&W0085, and had it engraved, added the ivory (assume they are real) stocks, got the book, that was never part of an anniversary package as stated by Roy, from a separate source and put it all together in a package resembling a Deluxe 125th Anniversary package.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

From what I can see, the engraving on that gun is much nicer than typical Class A factory engraving. It appears to be extremely well executed with the background cut back (read more work by the engraver). I love the pattern and would like to see more close up photos if you get a chance.
Thanks for sharing,

I strongly believe that it was engraved by an experienced and talented engraver, but not a factory engraver. In one of the photos, it looks like there might be some initials on face of the frame under the engraving on the yoke face?
Thanks for sharing,

That is a very attractive revolver
Remember that every Smith & Wesson rule has an exception
That would not be the first time a revolver that was not on the tens got engraved as a deluxe. Only a letter will tell for sure.

Thank you! I am not seeing any initials and I looked very closely all over. If this is what you are referring to it did look like initials from that angle but here is a better angle.

Beautiful gun!
A few years ago I bought this “unicorn”. It is a 25-3 Letters as factory engraved but is not one of the Deluxe Editions. SN :S&W7448.
