629-1 3" Identification-Lew Horton or not?
I have a 3" 629-1 serial # ALD0161
I see others for sale as"Lew Horton's" with prices above $2,000.00
How do you tell? I do not have the original box or papers.
What would the value be?
Thank you all very much.

I have two LH 3” 629-1, one complete with box and goodies and the other with just the original combats. It’s hard to say for sure without being able to call Earl at Lew Horton, they unfortunately closed a year ago. My two examples have serial numbers with ANC prefixes. Since Smith produced this model long after the initial run from LH, the non LH 3” 629-1s should bring the same prices. Without the box it looks like yours with the combats would go for $1200 to $1500. Just depends on the market in your area and if you can find a buyer that can’t live without it.

The S&W customer service can tell if the gun was shipped to L.H.I believe.
At least they did for mine

I got curious, and since no one else responded, I looked this one up in the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson. It says "103610 3" RB 1985 5000 Manufactured fluted, smooth fingergroove wood grips, round butt. Almost 1200 to Lew Horton in 1986".
I would have thought that more would have went to Horton, since this is exactly the kind of Smith they were asking for in that time frame--3 inch 24-3s and 624s! Surprise!

I have two
One is a Lew Horton and the other is not which I learned by calling Lew Horton. I only shoot the non-LH.
Yes, if you order a history letter for your gun Roy can tell if the gun was shipped to Lew Horton.
