Welcome to the forum!

That’s a Model 13-1, also called the .357 Magnum Military & Police Revolver. It’s essentially a heavy barrel Model 10, made to accept .357 Magnum cartridges. The -1 version was made between 1974 and 1977, so I’ll move this to S&W Revolvers: 1961 to 1980 section. You’ll note that your gun has a pinned barrel.

You’ll find a list of links to all our sub-forums, complete with explanations, on the main menu.
Link to main menu (click on it): Forum

Yours has what appears to be a factory nickel finish, a 4” heavy barrel (standard on the Model 13’s) and is wearing smooth target stocks, which were added after it left the factory. They’re worth more than the smaller PC Magna stocks that were supplied on the guns.

In case you’re wondering, it’s built on the square butt K frame. You should limit the number of .357 Magnums and shoot mostly .38 Specials.

Edit to add: It looks to be in really nice shape and is probably worth around $700.

Welcome Crashmasterfab!

I own the 4" blue version 13-1, from the apparent holster wear looks to be a former duty weapon, and not nearly as pretty as yours.

s&wchad mentioned the pinned barrel, but it also has relieved cylinder chambers, allows the bullets to be recessed. We refer to this as "P&R" for pinned and recessed. Just some local forum slang.

Your Grandfather had taste. My condolences. But what a thing to remember him by! What did he use it for? I bet there's some stories there. Welcome to the forum and I look forward to hearing more!
