Default Were 25-2's Nickeled at Factory

Got a 1955 Target Model 25-2 that is nickle plated. Serial Number is N67XXX. I wonder if it came from the factory that way. I am guessing that a S&W letter would be the only way to find out.

Do you see an N stamped on the rear cylinder face, or either side of the grip frame under the stocks?

I have a Pre 25, model of 1955 that is nickle, I ask Roy Jinks, S&W Historian, if it was original and he told me it left the factory blued. It was a 5 screw and pretty and the price was right so I bought it anyway. If you are a member of the SWCA you can use the forum at the bottom and ask Roy Jinks. But you have to be a member, one of the many perks. I have never heard of a Nickle M-1955, but with S&W never say never. You could ask for a letter, I think they cost $100 for a non-member.

Nope, no C's on the cylinder or sides of frame. I don't think I want to know bad enough to pay the price of the letter. It is a good shooting gun and great for bowling pin shoots. Thanks for the replies.

You are looking for a "N" stamped on the grip frame and the rear face of the cylinder, not a "C".

There has been at least one or two Model 25-2s with a factory nickel finish posted on the Forum. I believe one of them is factory Class A-engraved.
