Trying To Identify A M29-2
I have a M29-2 with a 4” Barrel. I sure would like to know when it was made. It is in excellent shape. I was kind of curious to what it might be worth. It appears to have a target trigger and hammer.
Serial Number Is N7692**

Made in 1980 according to the Catalog. You can send S&W an e-mail or call them for more info about the ship date, etc...... 1-800-331-0852
Value in today's market....I have no idea.

Looks like 1980, before S&W stopped pinning the barrels about 1981. Pictures are blurry but assuming excellent condition, value without box/papers where I shop is in the $1200+ range probably more on the auctions sites. Last 29-2 I saw sell was an 8 3/8 in 98%+ condition with presentation wooden box (deteriorated interior) that went at an LGS for $1500 although it sat quite awhile before selling.

Probably a $1200 gun, more if you have the original case and contents.

Is it just me or does something look 'off' with that front sight. Especially in the second pic. Probably just the pic.

Thank you. I just sent them an email inquiring about the gun. If anything comes back interesting I will post here.

I will try and get better pics when we unthaw in the DFW area, but nothing is wrong with the front sight. I don’t even believe it has seen a holster.

All the original production M29's have .500" target trigger and .500" target hammer; 1981-1999 guns have a .400" target trigger and .500 hammer. Nice looking revolver, 4" barrels look badass on the N frame guns, and I bet that one really talks when you fire it.

Thank you for that information. Back in the 80’s I was in the pistol team for the State of Texas (State LEO) and we used M686 6” barrels with what they called “target” triggers and hammers. This one is wide. It sure feels nice too.
