Help with ID on 38
I was hoping you guys could tell me a little about this gun. I do know it’s a k frame but don’t know what year. I did a search by serial number but didn’t have any luck. Also what grips originally cam with the pistol. Also curious on the value. Thank you!

Welcome. The serial # will be under the grips on the bottom of the frame.

Welcome to the Forum.
You have a .38 Combat Masterpiece from about 1951. In 1957, S&W assigned model numbers and the CM became the Model 15.

It is a Combat Masterpiece, made in 1951.
The original grips would have been walnut Magna style.
I see it has a target hammer which it may have gotten at the same time as the black plastic thumb rest grips.
What does the medallion on the right grip say?

The original Magna stocks that would have shipped on your .38 Combat Masterpiece would look like those on the bottom gun in this picture. Notice especially the sharp angle of the upper edge above the stock circle. The type with more taper on the shoulder didn't appear until about 1953.
The stocks on the upper gun are the prewar style.

Thanks for the info! Are those a not too rare item found on eBay or gunbroker? What do they run?

Could not really tell from that picture, so I checked them out on ebay. Yes, those are the period correct stocks for your Combat Masterpiece.
