Default 3" Model 10-5 RB value

I'm trying to help a friend's widow settle his estate. He had a several firearms and I'm hoping to get accurate values for them in the current market. The gun is question was an ex Victoria Australia PD revolver. Its a 3" Model 10-5. Mechanically excellent condition but it shows moderate carry wear on high spots and end of barrel. Lastly, it has a set of Pachmayr Compac grips, and original's are gone. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I’d say at least $500 based on your description. A mint in the box, which is not what you described, may bring a little over a $1k.

I don’t think a 3” 10-5 RB is worth double what a 4” 10-5 SB is worth, but it’s definitely worth a premium.

Wnycollector:

I’ve always been more of a revolver fan over a semiautomatic. Way before the 3.0 inch barreled K-frame market went crazy, my grail gun was a Model 13 chambered in .357 Magnum - the famed revolver used by Jody Foster in “The Silence of the Lambs” movie and the last officially issued revolver by the FBI in real life. I’d pretty much given up all hope of buying my grail gun and thought I’d scratched my itch with a Model 66-3 with a 2.5 inch long barrel and 4.0 inch long barreled Ruger Security Six revolvers when I came across a Model 64-3 with a 3.0 inch long barrel in a LGS.

The piece was used, and clean. There was no reason me to buy the piece so of course it followed me home. I took it to the gun range expecting to be supremely embarrassed by comparing it head-to-head with my Model 66-3. I was very surprised at how much difference a 0.5 inch long makes. Based on my experience, the 3.0 long barrel is spot on foot the piece. BTW, I had a pair of CT laser grips on the Model 66, and I switched them onto the Model 64 and they did actually require resighting despite the 0.5 barrel difference.

I have no regrets buying the Model 64, and maybe it was a sign from above that about a year later I found a 3.0 inch barreled Model 13-3 at a excellent price, but was also able to add a 3.0 inch barreled Model 65-3 (the last officially issued revolver by the DEA).

Best of luck to you.

Regards,

Dave

Default 10-5 3"

I just returned from the nearest gun shop. Stopped in on impulse, on the way to another errand. There were three Model 10-5 3" in the case, $495 each. Three!! I already have a 4" bull barrel and a 5" pencil barrel, and I just scored a box of 500 cast 158gr SWC, so I'm shooting them again.
So -- I paid for the cleanest of the three, but the ATF line is so backed up that it'll be a day or so until the shop releases it to me.
This revolver has a heavy tapered 3" barrel and a square butt. Factory stocks are in pretty good shape. There is bluing wear all over. The cylinder locks up tight on all six chambers with the trigger held back, both side-to-side and fore-and-aft.
Is this one of the Australian police guns? I think I read that some like this were sold to a police agency in France, too.
Also, who makes good wood grips these days? I used to like Tyler-T-grips on S&W revolvers, but that guy in OK is mighty slow on delivery. I'm thinking maybe a nice checkered walnut grip, with the frame exposed in the back.
