Default The perfect Model 27!

This, to my mind is the most perfect Model 27 I can imagine. It's a dash 2, 3.5' barrel, shipped in September 1978. It's in 99.5% condition, target hammer, target trigger, white outline rear sight, red ramp front, and Roper-style stocks hand-crafted by Curt Harlow, "44Magget" on this forum.

The gun is hard to find, the presentation case ditto, and it's also hard to find a stock maker that can replicate the original Roper stocks so finely. Curt has done an outstanding job. I'm really pleased to own this fine Smith & Wesson.

John

Beautiful revolver. The 27-2 is my favorite Smith. I have several in all the barrel lengths except the elusive 6 1/2”. The 5” is my personal favorite because of the balance.

When did the red ramp and 3-T's first appear on the 27-2?

John,
That is a spectacular looking Model 27

I very much like the 3 1/2" barrel on the 27s though none of my blue ones look that pretty

Nice piece. Have one like it (27-2 3.5 inch), not as nice. However, I can shoot it as much as I want and not feel that I am harming a collector piece.

I have a m27-2/6” barrel gets my vote any n frame caliber with a 6” barrel. But my m58 gets my love too.

We don’t have to shoot them all the time to enjoy them, just wiping them down and using g96 to protect them is good too.
Wishing you a safe opening wipe down day. God, family, guns I love America.

Very nice M27! I do enjoy mine and I agree that the 3 1/2" M27 is just about perfect. Mine is just a little earlier then yours, 1968-69 and the targets were on it when I bought it, no box and docs.

That's a real nice M27!
But like Skeeter, I prefer a 5" 27......

That's a beautiful revolver.

I sold 8 of my M27s including this 1955 3.5".

I kept my 5" M27-2 and the perfect, for me, 1960 6.5" M27.

I've never cared for Ropers, but I love the 3.5" barrel on the large frame revolvers. Very nice pistol . . .

Default Perfection?

I don't know what perfection is but OP that is a dam pretty gun. So are the others posted here. Maybe some day I will fill in the gaps of my M27 accumulation. I need the 3.5", 4", and the 8 3/8". They shouldn't be too tough to acquire. I think one of hardest to find is the M27-1, 6.5", on the left.

The 5" is the only Model 27 I have. Mine was made in the 1960's and it was shipped to Germany, as it has German proof marks. I'm guessing that a US serviceman bought it and took it home.

Beautiful gun.

Nice 27s. The 3.5" barrel with the target setup is awesome. I've got a couple of pre-27s with the 3.5" barrels, but they are more standard configuration:

There's something about a 3.5" 27-2:

I'd love to find a 3.5" Model 27. I currently have the 5" version, and I love it as a range gun.
My preference for being able to carry a revolver high and tight on my belt has led me to favor the 3"-3.5" barreled N-Frames. That just seems to be the perfect proportions of size and weight to have on my side all day. I've got a couple .44's that I'm running now, but a .357 would be a cool addition.

Beautiful gun, John. I am envious.
But I'm afraid I have to disagree. The perfect Model 27 has a 5" barrel.

I guess it's a matter of individual preference - I also have a nice 5" nickeled example. Still, I think the 3.5" outclasses any other length for appearance.

"Perfect" for me would entail a longer barrel. I'll admit that 3.5 is gorgeous, but practicality trumps beauty for me. I shoot my guns, and the sad truth is, with my eyes anything that short is a paperweight. An AWESOME paperweight, but a paperweight.

Stunning gun though.

A lot of folks, including me, really like the 8 3/8" barreled Model 27s. This 27-2 should be right up your alley!

And that's the gun that makes me I'll every time I see one. Because it's the one I bought at a pawnshop for $400 and sold for $700 I think. I was very young but mostly very stupid, did not know what I had nor what it would become, my GRAIL GUN. The most beautiful revolver ever made. How can a Python be more gorgeous than this? It cant.

Very nice revolver sir.
