No, but I have a 28-2 at APW Cogan right now for chroming. I have high hopes for it. I'll show you when I get it back (provided I can figure out how to post pics).

I don't have a 28 with hard chrome but I do have a 25-5. A very tough finish and attractive too in my opinion. Good luck.

I don’t currently have any hard chromed guns, but I really like how it looks and wears. Another option, and one I like is black nitriding. It is equally durable if you want black instead of silver.

Not a 28 but had my Python done in 1985 and it’s still like new. Very durable finish.

This is not a 28 but rather a 57. I bought it this way. Someone before me had it hard chromed, barrel cut to 5", trigger job, etc. This is probably my favorite shooter in the revolvers. Another additional perk you get with the hard chrome is that it doesn't develop a turn line on the cylinder.

No hard chromed 28, but i have a hard chromed N frame.
A .455 that looks like someone hard chromed it when it was so new it didn't even have to be polished first (all the markings and side seam look original)

Note, I purchased a h&r 22 revolver that the seller called nickeled. It had a yellowish tint to the finish much like a dirty nickeled revolver. When I got it home I took some simi chrome polish to clean it up and found out it’s chromed. I looked it up in my h&r book and sure enough some were chromed. Food for though when purchasing nickel or chrome finishes.

It can and will. This Model 15 was hard chromed a while back with a matte finish. The cylinder line didn't take long to form. You can see it on TNZ71's pic above as well.

Just to show the finish, this is a 19-4 that was "Metaloyed" finish (Berryville Ark), some years ago. it is a very tough finish that lasts for years. Be sure to remove the sights and have them leave the front sight black. I also had them leave the hammere and trigger alone.

Years ago there were a number of 57's listed for sale in Shotgun News. They had all belonged to a PD and had been hard chromed.

I understand the industrial hard bumper chrome for carry revolvers. Lol.
My stainless finish guns see more action.

I've got one that was bumper-chromed too. Plated right over the pitting. Not a 28, and it's ugly, but it is mechanically solid and it shoots just fine...

I just tried to search for Metalloy and Armalloy with no luck finding active websites. Where does one get these finishes applied?

Can you tell me where you got that done, or any recommendations got a black nitride finish.

These folks put their CPII finish on my Gold Cup frame. They post a lot on the Sig forum and get a lot of good feedback.

Does S & W still do factory nickel? I thought years ago you could send the gun back to the factory for a refinish or nickel and they would stamp a star on the frame to show it was factory work, which would affect value on collectibles, anyway.

I had one just like this but my brother traded me out of it for a couple I had sold/traded him over 30 years ago.

The Performance Center does advertise a nickel finish, but it is on a glass beaded surface, so it would not be the highly polished nickel that is seen on older S&W revolvers.

StrawHat, my only experience with this kind of plating is with Mahovsky. His work that I have seen has been excellent and the only piece I own now (a non-Smith bottom feeder) that I plan to have plated will go to him as soon as I get off my lazy adze and get a round tuit.

Used to see the 28's hard chromed in greater numbers. My guess, only, is that you had folks who were former WW2, Korea, and Vietnam and servicemen (police) that popularized it. Back then, it was just an 'every day' firearm and people didn't give thought to future value. Just my opinion, though. I see one now about every 2-4 years.
