Default You have to treat yourself once in a while--- New old stock stags

I guess I'm guilty of treating myself more than once in a while and did twice this week.

I've always loved older model 22 revolvers and rifles. There's just something aesthetically pleasing about the scale and balance of these firearms not to mention the joy of shooting them. Two of my favorites are my Winchester 62A and my S&W nickel 34 4".

Back to treating myself, no I didn't buy the 62A and 34 this week but I did find a pair of NOS stag grips from 1970 in the box. I saw some so so photos of the and made an offer to the owner. I offered what I thought was a fair price for a nice pair of elk antler grips but when I received them I'm thinking they may be Sambar.

These were made by a company named Outrider and labeled as real stag. It appears the price may have been $5 in 1970. They're in perfect shape and appear to never have been used. They're nicely polished and the color is amber / yellow. They're heavier than I would have guessed too. Compared to my elk grips they're very amber in color.

Your opinions please.

The other treat, a new General Custer Cimarron 45LC. I have several Ruger black hawks and other SA Rugers but the Cimarron is a totally different experience. After shooting 60 rounds you realize how refined the Ruger beach hawk is. Shooting the Cimarron you feel like you've gone back to the basics.

The warm color made me think of that but poor photo's can be deceiving. In person they do look like Sambar.

I think nice stags really enhance the beauty of a firearm. I tell my wife selecting the right grips for a gun is like her picking the right shoes for her outfit. I even change my grips out from time to time and I’m always on the lookout for a new set.

Changing grips is the easiest/cheapest way to have a "new" gun. Back when, it's part of why I went down the road of grip making. Even something like these old plastic Fitz can do that. I love the look, and especially the feel of this pair on my M586. I just put them on yesterday and am happier with my 586 now. It's a NEW GUN now
